I need a weight loss buddy!

Hey I just would love some motivation, I always lose weight and then gain it right back. I’d love some encouragement and I’d love to be able to encourage others! I want to change my life, I’m tired of being over weight.

I feel you. Feel free to add me as a friend. I find if we all see each others profiles, it helps us feel love accountable for our own behaviors. Good luck on your journey friend. Its our time!

While accountability partners are certainly helpful, I have a question: What are you doing that causes you to gain the weight back? I’ve been in the same boat and this time I am personally trying to make it a lifestyle change. If you diet just until you get to a certain point and then go back to what you did before, of course you’ll gain it back (I certainly did). So now, I chose to approach it differently, with sustainable changes that I can see myself continuing indefinitely.

@slunburg Making it a lifestyle change and keeping the change going is key! I've done this multiple times (sadly) and have kept the change up for an extended period of time...and then life gets in the way and I blow it. Having the support to keep it going is important. Diets are definitely only temporary and a lot of them aren't sustainable. What kind of changes are you making?

For one, I’m weighing and counting calories again, but more importantly, I’m eating the foods I enjoy while maintaining a calorie deficit. For example, I love dessert. I know that I have to do extra cardio to get dessert and remain in a deficit, so I do so. I weigh my dessert and have 1-1.5 servings tops.

I also have a full gym in my basement, so I lift 4 days a week and follow my weights with cardio. I also started C25K about 1.5 weeks ago. I decided to repeat week 1 though as I didn’t feel like I was ready for week 2. I throw some all cardio days in there on the “rest” days also. I’ve found, that it’s all about finding things I enjoy. If I don’t like it, I’ll find an excuse to stop doing it.

@slunburg Do you log all of your exercise? Do you eat back all of your exercise calories? Or just when you want that something sweet? I have resumed weighing and measuring my food, which I did religiously for almost 2 years. (I have a food scale at home and at work.) I don't count calories, but I count my macros.

I'm not lucky enough to have a gym in my basement, but I do have a gym close to home which is now re-opened...and I joined a couple of weeks ago. What's your go-to for cardio?

I set MFP to sedentary and then I log all of my exercise individually. I found years ago that anything but sedentary and MFP said I was burning absurd numbers of calories.

I eat back most but not all of my exercise calories. Currently set to lose 1 lb a week. I would like to lose more, BUT I also don’t want to be super hungry or I will make bad choices.

I am lucky enough to have a husband who knows his stuff when it comes to equipment, so I have 3 commercial pieces of cardio equipment in my basement. I use the treadmill for C25K and also for uphill walking (no holding on though lol), I have an arc trainer (even at level 1 it kicks my butt, so I should use it more, but honestly I only use it 2-3 days a week), and I have a bike that I use for 10-15 min a day probably 4 days a week. I also take my dogs out for 90 min walks most days of the week (weather permitting).

Honestly, without the cardio I would be over my calories anyway, so I don’t get as many “extra” calories as you might think, but I get some and I enjoy them 😊
