After all the debate on here, I talked with my doctor and nutritionist and both said not to eat back exercise calories so I do not eat mine.

I don't think there's any one magic answer to this. I eat some of my exercise calories (usually about 300 of them) but sometimes I eat more or sometimes I eat less (depending on if I'm training for an event, for example, or if I'm taking it slower than usual because I'm on vacation or something like that).

I tend to eat more carbs when I'm fueling for a workout. I worry about protein first (I shoot for 130-140 g a day), carbs second (~350 g per day), and fat last.

The only way I've learned to keep sodium low is by purchasing as little processed/packaged meat as possible (sandwich meat in particular can be really bad), avoiding processed stuff in general (or rather, making sure that fruits/vegetables/other low sodium foods outweigh the processed stuff in my diet) and by generally just reading nutrition fact labels when I go grocery shopping. Some foods I really like are really high in sodium and that's that. But there's plenty of stuff out there that's low sodium and delicious.

My diary is public if you'd like to have a look.

I eat them back... maybe that's why I hit so many plateaus? I've been slowly working down to net 1200. We'll see if that works better. As awful as it is, I haven't ever looked at the sodium mcuh. Need to do a little reading and see why it's so bad for you.

From my personal reading, you shouldn't eat less than 50% of your BMR number. Anything less and your body stops burning fat and burns stored sugars and lean protein like muscle.

My BMR is about 2400, so I shouldn't eat less than 1200 calories per day. I was eating back my calories for a couple of weeks because I was doing some pretty intense workouts. I've brought it back down to around my number before the workouts and I've started losing again.
