I'm afraid I'll stop if I stop!

Last week I was put on best rest for a few days and referred to a Cardiologist (abnormal EKG). I don't see that doc for another week and it is tearing me up inside that I can't exercise. My husband, my family, my friends all think I'm crazy for wanting to AT LEAST walk on the treadmill. I went to work today, nobody said a word about that! They just don't get it. For the first time in my life (queue the sad music) I've found something that works for me. The day before this happened, I was able to run on the treadmill for 5 minutes straight! That's a major accomplishment for me! I'm scared that if I stop exercising, that I'll stop exercising for good and I don't want that. I can't do that start over thing again, I just can't. (raises hand to forehead and walks away dramatically)
Sigh...maybe I'm the unreasonable one here...I don't know. What do you think?

hmmmmm what is Best rest???
LOLOL kidding, but in all seriousness, you should listen to your doctor. I for one as one of your pals WILL REFUSE to let you go back to your evil ways   he he he0 -
you may be fine BUT if you do have something wrong with your heart and you die then you'll really never exercise again
resting is tough but you can do it for your health and the long-term!0 -
I understand how you're feeling 100%. But the last thing you want to do is mess up something permanently. How are you able to go to work if bed rest is the prescription?0

well im no doctor, so you should listen to whatever your doctor says -- if you over exert yourself, you may end up on bed rest much long than just a week. Just think about how awesome your body will be when the week is over and you can start exercising again! that should pull you thru!0

ugh...i know the feeling and it sucks but you have to do what's best for your body right now. it's like running on an injury, only potentially more serious. if you run on a sprained ankle you'll really hurt it and be out for way longer. let them figure out whats going on with your heart you wouldn't want to risk something serious. until then, be careful with what you eat and it will all balance out
i hope you get back to the gym soon!0 -
You need to listen to your doctor. It is only for a week you may be fine, but if you fall out from 5 minutes on the treadmill where will your family be. I know its hard but wait for a clean bill of health just watch your food closely till your able to go back.0

It won't take very long to get back into it. Please listen to your doctor.0

You need to listen to your dr and not exercise. If there is something wrong, exercising could make it so much worse. Do this for your health. When you get the "OK" from the dr then you can start exercising again. Good luck!0

Trust me, I understand the feeling; but if you don't listen to your doctor, you won't be able to excercise for a MUCH longer time after than if you just bed rest.0

Remember when I was training for the marathon? I injured my IT band and couldn't run for 2 weeks. That was killing me because we were in the middle of the training season. I was afraid I'd lose all ground and be back to only running one mile at a time. Well, guess what? I rested for two weeks and was able to jump back in at the 8 mile run with no problems. You'll be back on the treadmill doing those 5 minutes! I'm surprised that you're not allowed any exercise at all, though. If the EKG was seriously abnormal, I'd think they would have gotten you into a cardiologist asap. Did he specifically say no walking either?0

You won't stop. Your enthusiasm is great. Make it clear to your doctor(s) that you want to stay active. Very few doctors will assume that or even ask about it.0
