Antipsychotics and weight gain

I gained about 20 pounds on Abilify and I just switched to Latuda. I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of these drugs? What is your experience losing weight while on medications?

Abilify only made me gain like 5, all other antipsychotics were like 20-40-60 lbs gain

@medusasnake was it mostly from increased appetite? And was it hard to lose when you switched/got off? I've never had a problem losing weight counting calories but on abilify weight loss is extremely slow and if I go over my calories AT ALL I gain like crazy.

I have gained on most APs, but Abilify I had side effects with, and have never been on Latuda, so I couldn't evaluate it. Good luck!

My weight loss stalled and I even gained when I went on Seriquel and olanzapine last summer. When I stopped taking them under my doctor’s care, I lost the weight I gained while taking them and now I am back on track with my weight loss. The uncontrollable hunger I experienced while on them went away once I was fully weaned off the meds. I don’t have experience with the 2 drugs you are on though. Best of luck!

There could be some weight gain. I have gained some on latuda but am now losing while taking bupropion.

Not with Abilify, but with others I just don't seem to have a "Hey, I'm full" switch in my brain, and I definitely gained weight due to meds. It seems MUCH harder to lose weight while being on them, compared to when I wasn't. It's a invisible hurdle many of us face!

Update: since my switch I’m down 2 pounds so hopefully it continues.
