Noticing your weight loss

During the lockdown I’ve lost roughly 28lbs. I currently weigh 319lbs. I achieved this with the 5:2 plan (800 calories on fast days), walking, weight training and heavy boxing bag workouts 5 days a week. I’m doing fine and enjoying the process as best I can.

I’m curious as to when my weight loss will really be noticeable? Right now, I don’t see much difference. I’m either not seeing the wood for the trees or the scale is lying 😁.

Has anyone had a similar experience? If you started at a similar size as me, how long did it take to become apparent to you that the weight was coming off? The scales tell me I’ve lost 2 stone and my jeans are definitely not so tight. Will there be a eureka moment? I’ve never lost so much weight in my life and always been overweight so this is all new to me.

The more you have to lose, the longer it will take to see visual confirmation. Also, many if not most people start losing weight first from their extremities which isn't as noticeable as weight coming off the face, stomach, and other problem areas.

Congrats on your weight loss! My starting weight was 225, I've lost almost 30 lbs, 60 more to lose, and I don't notice any difference. I'm also 5'7 if that matters. I'm guessing I'll need to lose close to 50 lbs to see any real change.

The way your clothes fit are going to be a better judge than your mirror.
You can also start to take progress pictures...pose the same way in the same clothes each time.
Congrats on the loss so far!

Progress pictures!! I cannot overstate how much progress pictures help with noticing your own weight loss. I take one about once a month. It’s not always a dramatic change but seeing the side by side comparison helps me see the little changes that I would never notice in the mirror because it’s happening so slowly.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the advice everyone. I’ve avoided taking progress pictures in the past because I hate looking at myself in the mirror. But I’ll give it a try! 🙂

You'll see it at some point. For me I was out for a run and spotted myself in a window and was shocked. Bam suddenly I noticed it. The first bunch of pounds aswell are usually visceral fat (apparently - heard it on the doctors kitchen podcast) and that's the worst fat to carry round so hooray you've really improved your health drastically already.

I'm only 45lbs overweight. And my before photos are HIDEOUS. My God I hate looking at them!!
But I did it for the pure satisfaction at the end. You might look at it with disgust right now but at the end, you'll look and truly see what you have achieved!!

I noticed in my feet first. Shoes were easier to put on. Technically my left shoe was easier to put on first and then my right foot started deflating shortly thereafter.

The fat-sucking machine has a drunk driver at the wheel. It does not always make sense where it will go first or next. I was quite cartoonish in appearance at times over the course of losing more then 250 pounds.

Sorry if this was already asked; I didn't read other comments..
Are you taking measurements? If not, start.
Did you take a starting photo and compare it to more recent photos? If not, do it!
How many more reps can you do now than you could do before? How about endurance doing particular cardio moves or whole workouts?
There are more ways to track progress than just the scale and I encourage every single one of them! Non-scale victories are great to celebrate!
To answer your question, your change will be seen more so by others than by you at first.
Congrats on losing 28lb!! Keep on this path and you will definitely see the change you're asking about

I went up to 295 pounds at one point, and others started to comment on my loss at about 40 pounds, so I guess it was then for me. Way to go, keep it up. :) You'll see results soon and those looser pants count too.

    This!

Incremental progress is the key to happiness is a phrase I say a lot. I wish I'd known to take notes on everything at the start - how many jumping Jack's I could do in a minute, how many minutes I could run for without stopping, how long I could hold a plank for etc. I've improved in these loads but I'd love to be able to know exactly.
