There is no scientific evidence that any particular amount of water is healthy, although the recommendation of eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day is a common one. What one should do to make sure one is sufficiently hydrated is to look at the color of their urine. It should be pale yellow or straw colored. If it is darker, you are insufficiently hydrated. If it is clear and basically colorless, you may be drinking too much water and should be careful not to develop hyperhydration and water toxemia. To do that, however, you would have to be drinking more than one liter per hour 24/7. Less than that speed and your kidneys can keep up with just filtering and dumping the water out.5

Don't you think that perhaps different people doing different things with different diets in different conditions will need different amounts?
