    Weight loss is caused by being in a calorie deficit.

    If you only need to lose 12 lbs healthy weight loss would be .5 lbs a week.

    You can use mfp to help calculate your calories.

    That's a pound a week and doable on nutrition alone. I had to do similar for a few months with a knee injury.

    Log your food judiciously (and consider getting a kitchen scale) after ensuring you're eating at an appropriate caloric deficit for your current weight, height and level of activity.
