So over the past couple of weeks I’ve been training For the defence forces (army) and I’ve been especially running and I’ve seen a lot of progress, so I really struggled to even run 3-4km at one stage and in the space of 3-4 weeks I’m up to 12km now I struggle and just about get it. But today I got really bad Achiles pain on a 5k run and I was taking it easy and slow is there a reason behind this and a easy treatment because I have the defence forces training in like 9 days and I’m starting to get worried

Did you run uphill? That puts more strain on the Achilles. So can switching to shoes with a lower heel. Whatever the reason, don't run through Achilles pain. But don't completely rest it either - movement helps tendons heal. To reduce problems before and during your training, slip in a heel insert into your shoes to raise your heel up a bit, which takes strain off the Achilles.
Someone may recommend icing it, but ice slows circulation, which slows healing. It's for breaks, tears, and things like that.
Keep us updated.3 -
No I never ran up hill, I did do some calf stretches which might have done it, I also swapped my running shoes about two weeks ago to Nike Pegasus 37s so I could also just be getting used to them. I’m just going to rest today and try stay off my feet then go on a jog tomorrow and see how I get on I’ll keep you posted cheers for the advice and reply!0

I'd say it's probably the shoes. I can't wear certain brands like Nike because they destroy my feet.
And with regard to icing injuries it's usually done to reduce inflammation...I had an ice machine after I had shoulder surgery and I attribute my quick healing and not needing meds for long to the icing. It didn't slow healing at all it reduced the inflammation so I could get back to normal quicker0 -
So like is that a change shoe again kind of thing or will it just take time to get used to them? Because I just spent €120 on them 🙄😂

Ditto...shoes. Been there done that on spending alot for new shoes. The shoe may be fine if you change the insole...or wear a heel cushion. If you can, go to a specialty running store and let them look at your gait etc...and assess your pain. According to the achilles treatment stuff I know...you "might" need a slight lift in the heel, or the shoe could be causing strain... You can ice it, rest it, compress and rest it... but really... You have worked so hard...and have your training coming up...the last thing you want is to wonder "what if I had just tried one more thing". If it is severe pain...don't wait...go have a doc evaluate it...you don't want to tear it and need surgery. They do make achilles tendon wraps. Don't forget that talking an anti inflammatory like ibuprofen can speed healing.1

Cheers thank you for your reply I’m gonna try another pair of shoes tomorrow and see how I get on at least that way I can eliminate if it’s the shoes or not, if it isn’t the shoes I’ll have a look at going For the achiles tendon wraps!

If you go to a good shoe store tell them what's happening and they might know some they can help. Often the heel is slightly different so it makes your foot have to walk in a position it's not used to. You could get used to it.
Insoles can make a world of difference as can getting some kind of support. I have lots of foot issues and they tend to flare up when my shoes are getting old.o find Asics and Saucony are the best brands for my weird feet0
