So im suppose to eat 1200 calories a day. Why would i want to eat back the calories that i burned off? So yesterday i burned 546 calories and its told me to eat 1746 calories for that day. What is the purpose of even working out if i just have to eat that much more??? Also how does it even work i know your body will go in a starvation mode and you wont lose anything but when does that happen (how many calories should you eat so it wont happen) Or is these 1200 the bear minimum you should eat before you go into starvation?

1200 IS the bare minimum before starvation mode and working out boosts your metabolism for the day, and causes you to burn even more calories than you wouldve if you just sat around all day and only ate 1200. so it works out!
i find that sometimes i eat half the calories i burned, or all of them, sometimes not at all. pay attention to how your body feels and see what works for you! its not an exact science0 -

That's exactly what I do.0 -
MFP gives you a deficit without workout out. If you workout you increase that deficit. It can become "too big" which MIGHT slow and or stop weight loss and MIGHT make this process harder.
I'd rather eat as much as possible and still lose weight.0 -
I agree! The first time I saw that it was confusing. And now when I go back to review my calories for the week it shows I only used 400 calories that day since it subtracted out my exercise. . I understand the calorie goal is there to "maintain" a weight but most of us are trying to lose weight. The exercise calorie expenditure needs to be listed separately. Hope the developer hears our pleas!0

working out is not an appetite suppressant!!!!
if you have a car, and you are driving it at a normal pace, you need to put in gas at a regular interval. but if you take that car on the race track, or just open up that throttle on the highway, guess what, you are going to run out of fuel sooner, and need to replenish.
your stomach is similar. however, your stomach does not want any gasoline. it wants delicious food. like a previous member said, somedays they re-eat all their calories, or half, or none at all. i am the same. some days i'm just not that hungry.0 -

actually, the calorie goal can be used to maintain or lose. it can be adjusted to whatever you'd like.0 -
1200 is what they recommend that you stay at or above. I'm sure if you happen to fall below 1200 a day here and there it won't hurt. But I would not advise doing it to to often, otherwise your body will go into starvation mode and you won't lose weight, no matter how hard you work out and cut your calories. The same thing is also true if you burn 546 calories every day by working out and you only eat 1200 calories. Your body may end up going into starvation mode, because you are not eating enough to fuel your body and your muscles. Sometimes just increasing your calories up to 1350 or even 1400 will be the added spark that you may need to start losing again if you work out heavily. Just remember every person is different, what works for me, may not work for you. You may need to play around with your calories to figure out what will work for you and what will put you at your goal. Another reminder, slow and steady will win the race. This is not a diet, but a life style change. Hope this helps, and if you need further help, please friend me and good luck!!!!

Very, very wrong. The calorie goal MFP gives you already has the deficit built in - if you told it at the beginning that you wanted to lose 1 lb a week, then your daily calorie goal already accounts for a 500 calorie deficit below what is needed to maintain your weight. When, and only WHEN you actually log exercise, those calories are added back to your daily total to maintain your 500 calorie deficit (or whatever your goal was). Because people may say they are going to exercise every day, but then life sets in and they only exercise 3 times that week. If the program gave them calories for exercising every day and they actually weren't, they'd be eating too much.
The developers don't listen to your pleas because you don't understand how the program works.0 -
This is something I struggled with when I first joined the site. I figured that if I increased my deficit, I would lose more. But my body didn't like that idea. I ate 700 net calories for a week and didn't lose anything. Once I started to eat more small meals throughout the day, I started to feel better and the weight began to come off again.
In the end you have to do what is right for your body. If you're hungry, eat. If you're thirsty, drink. Just try to stay within your net calories and you will lose weight. I personally lose weight a little slower than most people, but this whole experience is a learning process and I've learned that I can't force my body to do anything.0
