Another way of doing it?

Hi
I am new to MFP but have been losing weight on and off for years. I hit my heaviest around 2000 then lost a bit on my own and joined Weightwatchers in 2004 at 374lbs. I lost a lot, but gained some of it back when my husband went through cancer and I hit peri-menopause. I keep trying but my hormones seem to be thwarting my efforts. I am 246lbs today but have been as low as 238lbs. I am giving MFP a go for a change to re-vitalise my weightloss.
I belong to a gym and was working out 3-4 times a week but chronic migraine with vertigo quite often stops me going. I walk as much as I can, but am in a sedentary job so find it hard to walk much most days.
Today was my first day on MFP and I came in under my calorie, fat and carb goals, went over on protein (which I guess is okay) and on sugars (which is probably not good).
Any MFP tips for me? Any other peri-menopausal ladies on here?

The protein goal in MFP is a bit low, IMHO, and as long as your sugars are coming from fruit, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds to me like you had a nearly perfect day.
  • MFP is a great site, can add me if you want.

I am also dealing with peri-menopause and am also hypothyroidism. I am also undergoing tests for another problem but not sure yet what that is. Whatever it is however does cause me to have a hard time getting a good workout in.

So I can understand what you are dealing with, hormones can be our enemies sometimes

You can add me if you want.
  • I was wondering if you are on HRT? I asked because you mentioned about your
peri-menoupausal situation and that always contributes to hormone imbalnces,
and it gets to us ;) Cortizol is a chemical in our bodies or brain? but it releases fat.
    Cortizol is released from stress.
And Let me say, You're weight loss is amazing!!! You've lost a huge amount
of weight, and i know its hard to lose the mind frame that you had with that weight too,
thats difficult to manage often.. So give yourself a hug for that right there or a smile, which ever is easier for you ! :)
Losing a large chunk of weight often comes off a lot more surpising that we'd
imagine before we've lost it. Once a large amount goes away, we get stuck at a point eh?
Thats a time when we need to kick it in over drive and stay there!! without losing our minds of course..
It is VERY VERY difficult and emotional, when a close one is ill,
and it makes it hard to stay driven on our recent sucess. When i joined this sight i
was able to see so much of what i was actually consuming, and over consuming,
and i thought i had it under control prior to this site. But before this site when i
thought i had it under control, and i wasn't seeing results!!
I was unhappy along with multipul other reasons and i wanted
to find something that i could have control over and make a difference in me!
I needed to have that!! It helps us feel good, and when we feel good, we can keep going,
and then we'll see more results!
Though.. after about a month and a bit on this site, i had a big big melt down!!
it was cause too much for me to tend to outside of other things i needed to put
attention on and i found it to be too tedious and became overwhelming.. I withdrew from
it and gained back some weight. I sulked and put myself down. I felt dumb, i convinced
myself i was stupid and that i'll never get through this weight loss i want so bad!!!!!!
A month later, i got back on track!
And let me tell ya, this time its harder, but my mind is in the right place! im not cluless as to
what i need to do, and it makes it smoother for me when i come across those harder times.
All im saying is, you're being hard on yourself. All those things you are dealing with? yes, they
are very hard, and its very hard for you... but you are still being mean to you.
Bounce back, even if its not with this weight loss journey, bounce back in yourself :)
