Hi everyone. Does anyone want to share how they are loosing weight after 40? I have tried keto which nearly killed me, intermitten fasting which set me up for binge eating, weight watchers, atkins you name it and I keep gaining weight.
I work out a lot but it's not taking the weight off? Any ideas?

I am in my 60's and am losing weight. It is a slow process- some weeks I am up- some I am down but I have lost 14 pounds in the last several months. I try to make healthy choices but I have no "forbidden"foods. For me this is not a diet but a lifestyle change so that I can improve my health. I log everything I eat or drink, even if it brings me over in calories. I try to get at least 150 minutes a week of exercise but I do not eat back the calories that I burn. Even when I was younger and did WW that did not work for me. The key for me is sticking with MFP and healthy eating even when not seeing weight loss, eventually the weight loss will come.

    Primary goal: Calorie deficit
Secondary goals: Sleep, exercise, water, mental attitude, strategies for stress, track data/reflect
    Always: Balance spiritual, mental, physical

Make this a lifestyle...you will lose weight. Age is of no concern.

I failed to lose weight for 30 years. It is when I adopted the very simply mindset of allowing myself to lose weight instead of forcing it that made all the difference. I had to get out of my own way. I kept choosing or creating one plan that was not a good fit for me after another and when it failed I blamed myself for a lack of willpower.

It is just eating. Just do less of it.

You aren't fighting to put something in your mouth. You are only trying to prevent more from going in than you need. Your job is simply to portion your food so that you get an adequate amount of food energy and ask your body to use a small portion of its reserves each day to make up the difference. It is not like exercise that you have to find a way to start something. You just need to limit something you are already doing.

I know that the above paragraph is not that easy but it helps if you change your perspective. A lot of people make war plans to lose weight and that is what they get... war. If you expect it to be easier you will not just accept if it is harder than it needs to be. You will look for something easier. Sure there will be hard days but they should not all be hard.

I have lost over 250 pounds in the last couple of years. I did it by keeping my life as normal as I could, making small changes over time, and eating the way I know would sustain me and make things easier. I have had many happy days, a large portion of normal days, some fair days, and, yes, some really sucky days. Basically it has been living life.

eat less calories than you burn to lose weight. it doesn't matter what type of food you eat, just that you eat less than you burn - as some of us like say say, CICO (calories in, calories out).

the catch is the only way to know exactly how many calories you're eating is to either eat only pre-packaged 1-serving foods like quest bars or to weigh everything you eat, do the math to figure out how much of a serving you're eating, find an accurate login in the myfitnesspal database and add it to your daily food diary.

that's a lot easier than it sounds, btw. simply keep a food scale on your counter in a convenient location. when you look for an accurate database entry, either check the manufacturer label, found online or on the packaging, or in cases of some things, use search on USDA or google for the USDA nutrition info. it takes less than 2 minutes a day altogether, and unlike fad diets, it actually works.
