Hi all,
I am entering my exercise (a pretty intense 45 minute upper-body workout) and it seems as though MFP doesn't add exercise calories for weight training. Am I missing something - or entering it wrong?

Thanks in advance

While you can enter the individual exercises under strength training, you have to enter a "strength training" entry into the cardio section to get any calories for it.

    read FAQ

    Q. Doesn't strength training burn calories? Why don't you show any calories burned for strength training?

    A. Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.

However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.

I just created a "Cardio" exercise for each of the different weight training workouts that I do. Of course, you'll have to do some research to determine about how many calories you are burning to set it up, but still, it makes it much easier and less frustrating to log.

I suggest you wear your HRM during your workout and enter your time and calories burned under the Cardio section. The number of calories I burn during my workout is much higher than the MFP estimate according to my HRM.

You need to search for it under cardio. try strength training or circut training (cardio mixed with strength).

I agree with Coltsman. Wear your HRM monitor and then you will be golden! I have a polar FT4 and it is awesome, but I am sure there are other good options out there.
  • I also agree wtih Coltsman. Wear your HRM and then you'll have your calorie burn numbers. I use the Polar FT60 and it rocks!!
