Watched one on Netflix last night, it was called Heavy.. So, Im just wondering, what are they doing to lose 6+ pounds a week? I know its not healthy, I know you aren't supposed to dream of these results. But thats a lot of weight to lose so fast! I wonder how many calories they eat in ratio to what they burn in a day. Im happy with my slow and steady progress, don't think I'm complaining.. I'm just a curious soul.

I've watched Heavy as well. I know on shows like Biggest Loser they work out like 6 hours a day (remember they don't have to go to work), so that is probably why.
  • Well, yes there are unhealthy ways of losing weight and they just might be doing it. I haven't seen that show. I look for the long term though. I's like to see them in a year, 5 or 10 years down the road. I, personally, have taken weight off very slowly but I have a lifetime to take and keep it off. I have heard of lifestyle changes and I am truly working toward that. I eat, I exercise and I lose. Sure I wish I would take it off faster but like I said this a life long thing and a pound is a pound. I am lighter than I was last year at this time so WOOHOO for me.
  • The difference is in their starting weights. The people on that show are generally 300+ pounds to start off with, so it's ok for them to lose weight more quickly.

They work out CONSTANTLY. Like, all day long. They also start out extremely heavy, which makes a difference - percentage-wise, 6 lbs on a 600 lb person is the same as 2 lbs on a 200 lb person.

They typically work out 4 to 6 hours a day and are very limited caloric diets 1200 or so calories. It is not so much as it is unhealthy as it is a little dangerous because it is the matter of if they can keep that kind of weight loss over time.

Never thought about it like that.. I figured they were workout-alohics.. and i saw their meals, or lack thereof. I cant fathom how those meals would produce enough energy to work out for so long. I know if I dont eat enough, but work out excessively my body will hold on to pounds.

I think the show is a lot like the biggest loser except its not really a competition, or centered around house drama.

This is exactly why. They are very heavy to start with, they have a trainer live with the for the first 3 months, their food intake is very strict, and tey work out like crazy. But once that trainer leves and they go back to real life they generally slow right down on the weight loss.

I have the Biggest Loser DVD's and it shows Eric from Season 3 I think it was. He was the Deli Manager/Owner from NY. In the videos he had put back on a lot of weight so trust me, once they go home, they just put it back on. Unless they stick to a style that they can maintain, I haven't seen more than a handful of people stick to their actual weight loss goal weights via those shows.
