I would encourage you to take a step back and ask the question:
Did the extra food help me during isolation?
I would presume the ultimate answer is no. It might have felt that way in the moment but that was a lie. Now you are less comfortable than before.
The reason I point this out is because we sometimes just assume that one thing is followed by another when it comes to eating. I was emotional, lonely, tired, excited, bored, whatever so that means I eat more food. Our food habits are compelling and they can feel like there is no choice. It can even feel like that is absolutely what we should or must do. That is a lie. Eating more is what we WANT to do. It is almost always optional.
Understanding the lies we tell ourselves about food is a key factor in enabling an easier path to getting the weight off and then ultimately keeping it off.
I do not say any of this as a judgement. I wish at my largest I had only gained 40 pounds. I used food for all kinds of purposes that were all lies.3 -

Widespread massive negative effects of lockdown are real!0

I know your pain! When lockdown started, husband and I stocked up on "just in case" snacks and frozen meals. We don't usually snack between meals, but here we were with chips and peanuts to graze on while we worked from home. We suddenly had frozen pizzas for dinner, which is a thing we never had in the house before. After work ended, we'd have a beer and joke about that being our new "commute." To relieve boredom, I started baking more, making more complex, indulgent meals, and making more cocktails. But one day a switch flipped, and I realized that instead of using this crazy time in life to pack on more pounds, I could be taking advantage of having 100% control over my food for however long this lasts. There's no work lunches, no parties, no date nights at restaurants where calories are unknown or I'll be tempted to eat more than I should. This is the BEST time to start losing weight and develop healthy habits! Take advantage of it, you can do it2

Yes! I came to this realization several weeks ago as well. I'm working from home, and I'm not tempted with office snacks or grabbing lunch out at a restaurant. I don't go out for drinks and dinner after work. I can completely control what I eat. And no commute means I have more time to walk around the neighborhood or do some sort of workout. I just wish I had come to this realization earlier.
If you have a lot of extra free time, try taking up a hobby to keep from mindless eating. I do a lot of reading and crafting, and that keeps me busy and not thinking about food.3 -
I think the food actually did help in isolation. It was sort of a coping mechanism. This pandemic
was and is a big deal.I did the same as many others did, stocking up on all kinds of food and constantly hanging out in sweat pants and PJ's.Now however this this can't and should not continue. We are all on My Fitness now to take control and be accountable for our actions.Good Luck to everyone as we go forward.3 -
This is a pandemic and none of us have really been through something like this. We all did whatever we needed to cope with the day to day. Saying what was said above is judgmental.
Ok now that's out of the way, I think most of the world is feeling the effects of comfort eating and drinking, being locked in our homes and not really feeling safe going out. Now we're more used to it, sadly. 40 pounds by summer is totally doable.
I decided this week to kick-start myself and did a stupid amount of working out, for me it's something to do rather than baking and cooking. You can do this. We are all here for support....you got this2 -
most of us are in the same boat. You are not alone.
For me- phase 1- the first few weeks of lock-down, I stopped eating. I was THAT depressed and freaked out. So I lost weight.
Then phase 2- I was worried I could not get food so I ordered and ate anything I could find. literally things like chefs boy rdee, crappy frozen foods.. very unhealthy for a few weeks.
phase 3- Then I decided to cook, bake bread, fresh pies, make everything from scratch. Which was very healthy, but I overate. I gained about 10 lbs, which is a lot for me.
phase 4- now- Like some others above, I then switched my "extra time" to cooking only healthy but also low calorie, running every day, doing tons of weights and pilates at home. Now I am losing.
Think of it as a game, some weird free time to try things differently. I have gotten obsessed with losing weight and working out now, rather than eating which was my earlier phase.
good luck.1
