A song for my daughter (need help)

So anyone who knows me know that my world begins and ends with my kids (Christian and Emma). I don't date, don't hardly go anywhere without them. They are my life. Well this Saturday my little princess turns 2. Now I have already bought tons of gifts and we are having a big party (still hoping her mom flies down for the party or at least calls her on her birthday), but I want to do something special. So I thought I would pull out my guitar (it's law that all cowboys be able to play the guitar) and sing her a special song. I am not a writer! Not even close. But I took the song "Crazy Girl" by Eli Young and rewrote it. It feels clunky but I know I can smooth it some as I sing it. Can anyone help with a re-write? I appreciate any and all help!
Thanks and blessings,
Ed

Baby why you wanna cry?
You really oughta know that
We all make mistakes sometimes
Daddies gonna do what daddies do
Gonna give you a hug or two
But I ain’t ever changin’ my mind

Sweet girl, don’t you know that daddy loves you?
Daddy wouldn’t dream of goin’ nowhere
Silly Princess come here, let me hold you
Have I told you lately?
I love you like crazy, Emma girl

Wouldn’t miss a single day
I’d probably just fade away
Without you and bubba, I’d lose my mind
Before you and Christian came along
I was livin’ life all wrong
Smartest thing I ever did was be your daddy

Sweet girl, don’t you know daddy loves you?
Daddy wouldn’t dream of goin’ nowhere
Silly princess, come here, let me hold you
Have I told you lately?
I love you like crazy, Emma girl

Sweet girl, don’t you know that daddy loves you?
Daddy wouldn’t dream of goin’ nowhere
Silly Princess come here, let me hold you
Have I told you lately?
I love you, Daddy loves you

Sweet girl, don’t you know that daddy loves you?
Daddy wouldn’t dream of goin’ nowhere
Silly Princess come here, let me hold you
Have I told you lately?
I love you like crazy, Emma girl

Like crazy
Sweet girl
Like crazy
Sweet girl
Like crazy

My Emma girl

Damn, thats sweet. I think it sounds great but I have zero musical talent so Im probably not a good judge.
(I can karaoke "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" awesomely tho...) ::)

My dad was the hands off kind of guy so its cool to see that kind of adoration.

Enjoy the birthday. They grow up too fast...

    Bye

Awww :) I wish my daddy had been like you when I was growing up. He only became a sap when I got older, lol. Unfortunately, when he first switched over, I didn't appreciate it. We have our differences and we fight a lot. It's so sweet to see a dad who loves his kids so much.

There are only two changes I can see/hear that would smooth it out.
    1. First line of chorus, omit the word "that."
    2. Instead of putting Emma's name at the end (where it's going to be hard to make the music smooth), why not put her name at the beginning? "Sweet Emma, don't you know daddy loves you?" and then remove her name from last line.

That is a pretty special song! Wishing my kids dad would have adored them like you. It will be perfect if you don't find help.
  • Not knowing the tune to the song, it would be hard for me to help you with anything. I do love the words, and whatever you sing will be very special for her.

Ed it is so wonderful that you recognize how scary life may be for little Emma and your song tells her the very most important thing she and Christian need to know...that YOU will ALWAYS be there! Not going anywhere! Love you to pieces, cowboy!! I don't think you need to change a thing. And make sure you print it out and put it in her "save" box for when she is older. Maybe even make a CD of it for her. She will treasure it forever! (sniff - going to find a kleenex now)

Your doing good! That right there is down right special! I wish I could do something like that for my daughter (3 years old now).

Wish I could help you out with it, but about all I do is listen to music; not good with the writing aspect.

For my daughter it's "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack.
