On again...hopefully for the long haul

Ive had the app on and off my phone since 2007. Still can't fathom where 13 years have gone...but anyway:

My highest weight was around 380. As of yesterday at the doctor I was 297. Not ideal but hey, beats 380.

I'm generally apathetic towards my goals, as evidenced by my slow to nonexistent progress in 13 years. My insides are in bad shape and I have the luxury of knowing which organ(s) will eventually fail and off me. That said, I'm not staying in the fight for me so much as for my wife and kids, and maybe one day to see grandkids.

My worry is for my oldest. Sparing big details, he's over 400. His big advantage is he's spent much more time in the gym at that age than I had, and has the muscle in there. But when we weighed him he got very down on himself. I've been trying to keep him motivated but I suck at that sort of thing, and he's reluctantly added the app and follows my eating, which has gone mostly keto in an effort to keep my glucose levels sane.

I have resistance bands and some old ddpyoga videos but he insists nothing will help him. I know who he looks up to in the fitness world and have even considered asking one of them to give him an ego boost.

Covid has made going to the gym pretty much impossible for me (health factors) and neither of us want to try to exert ourselves wearing masks as breathing in them is hard enough as is. We've done some hiking and I show him exercises.

If someone knows how to crack the shell of a stubborn teen I'm all ears.
