*raises hand* this girl is the stress eating queen...

the best thing you can do for yourself is when you find yourself reaching for something due to stress is realize that you are only doing it out of stress and 8/10 times youll put it down.

if you arent htere yet, meaning you dont realize youre eating casue of stress till youre done eating, then you need to get to the realization place and it's different for everyone...it won't work every time, but the more times you put things down when you acknowledge you dont need it, the easier (haha, ugh, i wish) it will become.

what *I* do is say it out loud - "im only eating this cause im a stress case" and i literally say that out loud...and it makes me put it down. i used to say it in my head (no lie) and i wouldnt put it down.

does any of my morning rambling make any sense at all?

I never overcame my binge eating/emotional eating issues until I started going to therapy, eating disorder treatment, and taking topamax. As well meaning as friends are, sometimes professional help is needed and that is what I recommend to anyone who has struggled with these issues for long periods of time.

  • I am def and emotional/stress/bordem eater too!! I actually had a bad night last night and feel really bad about it today. I have no advice, just wanted to let you know you aren't alone with this struggle. Considering counseling or something myself.

    Good luck!
  • Hi there!

Well, I know exactly how you feel. I am an emotional/stress eater too. Emotions for sure whether it's happy, sad, worried.....you name it. I am turning to the Lord for help in that area through prayer and reading the bible and honestly that is the only way that works for me. :)
I think you just have to retrain yourself, your mind to try and make smarter choices. I tend to eat just out of habit. Like it's programmed in me to GO to the fridge when I have that urge. Bad, bad habit. Now I have to refocus and be aware of those times.
I hope this helps. I do know it's frustrating cause it just leads to unhappiness with myself for giving in to the "food".
    Didn't mean to babble.
    Your not alone! :)

    God bless,
    Katie

    Makes sense to me!
Typical stress eater here. I don't eat when I'm hungry I eat because it distracts from things I don't want to deal with.
I must say I find that doing things to combat my stress really helps! Try relaxation techniques (yoga/meditation/just a nice long bath reading a book) every day and your stress levels should lower meaning you are less likely to reach for that donut to distract from dealing with things, you will actually be able to deal with those things instead. Doesn't always work, we all need will power as weel which comes and goes in my case, but it certainly helps :)

I chew gum... alot! And I go drink a huge glass of nice ice water since normally when Im stressed I need a little cool down. I also get the heck away form the kitchen! I know Im weak so I can NOT go in there when Im upset about something. Im stilll learning though, its hard to break habits that Ive had for so long, baby steps :)

I did too :/ I'm starting today off well though and trying not to dwell.

To the OP, I'm wish I had advice for you but I'm kinda in the same boat. I try to keep healthier stuff around to keep the damage to a minimum.

I still eat badly at times, especially when I'm stressed, but the difference is iv learned not to feel guilty for it, and I don't tend to continue eating as I used to..... I think to myself, oops, that was naughty, oh well, tomorrow is a new day...... And I don't dwell on it anymore.....
Try it hun, next time you eat badly try not to beat yrself up over it....
if you Dwell on it you'll eat more cause yr even more unhappy..... Vicious circle begins.... X
    Worked for me :)

Always say to myself, am I hungry, thirsty or just bored...... Sometimes I get so preoccupied with thinking about why I wanted it that the craving passes and I don't bother eating whatever it was I almost ate.... Haha...

I'm definitely a stress/boredom eater as well!! I've started drinking a ton of water, taking the dogs on a walk when I'm feeling particularly likely to binge..... and then when I do eat try to eat a huge handfull of carrots w/ hummus or a lite fudge pop (35 cal). Good luck! I know the feeling..... just remember looking good tastes better than anything!
