Best Compliment

I'm in a rare happy mood today. I've been remembering awesome compliments I've received from people. And I thought I'd start a thread about it. (I found one in search about best compliment from your SO, but I wanted to expand it to anyone.)

My best compliment ever...

I was visiting my mom in England for Christmas (my stepfather is English). She knew I wanted to dye my hair darker, so my Christmas present was a trip to the salon with her stylist for a cut and color. I've never met this man before. He's talking to me about color and cut when he says, "You must take very good care of your skin because your complexion is just flawless." I've always been uber sensitive about my skin. I have naturally rosy cheeks that can sometimes just look like I'm flushed. I get embarrassed when people point it out. I never had acne, but did, and do still, get occasional zits. So whether he meant it or was just saying it to get a good tip, I reveled in the compliment. My mom heard it and asked me later in the car how I felt when he said it, knowing how her daughter has always felt about her skin.

So what's yours? Let's dig up those great memories of fabulous compliments. The ones that just make us want to snog the person giving it. (But we restrain ourselves, of course. :-)

I used to weigh myself on the scale in the bathroom where I worked. One time a coworker came in just when I was standing on the scale. She asked me "are you trying to lose weight or gain weight." That was years ago- but I still remember it!

I walked out of my office building - just another day at work and was heading home to my hubby and little girl. A car, also leaving from one of the other offices in the building, pulled over and leaned out the window. He said "I just had to tell you that you are a beautiful woman and your husband/boyfriend is a very lucky man!" I thanked him and he drove away! I was on cloud nine for the rest of the day!

Being that I'm a bit bummed about my upcoming birthday, the most recent statement that was made to me I took as a compliment.

I was talking to a co-worker the other day & told him how a company wouldn't hire me because of my age. I recently had graduated at the top of my class, but couldn't get hired in the position I studied. Anyway, we talked for a bit & he said, "You can't be more than 32?!?" I just about got up & hugged the man! lol

I've never known anyone to tip a hairdresser.... We British don't tip anywhere near as much a American, so I can virtually gurantee you that he didn't say it for a tip.

TMI-It was during a rather intimate time (you know when you never feel sexy) and my BF had his hands on my hips and said "you ARE losing a ton of weight Babe" ...Needless to say I put it down that night...LOL

    I thought of another favorite...

I used to take Jazzercise. I would still, but the nearest one to me now is kinda far away. One night, there was a new instructor (new to me, anyway). She did a lot of the very complicated routines, and I loved it. Sometimes, those routines can be a bit boring. I was loving it. After class, I just had to tell her how much I enjoyed her class. I also wanted to find out if she regularly taught a class because I just wanted to go to her class all the time, since she played all the hard songs. I walked up to her, and before I could say anything, she said to me, "You're a dancer, aren't you? I could tell because you were the only one who could keep up."

    *swoon*

I was working out with a very tough personal trainer. He would almost make us girls cry, and while the others in my group were wasting time and energy on a complaint or whine, I was already thinking how I was going to get through the next circuit. One day he said to me that I was built like a 4x4.... ready to go through ANY terrain. I was the runt of the group and at the time, probably the least fit, so that was AWESOME to hear!

While I no longer workout with him, he is the voice in my head that keeps me pushing to the very limit and then....the praise... 'You are built like a 4x4, you will not give up in any terrain.'

I was at a bar with some coworkers and a pretty good-looking cougar hit on me. I had the ring on the whole time so I'm not sure why me. I'd been hitting the gym 5 times a week for about 2-3 months and it was nice to see the hard work recognized. That made my day/week/month. (coincidentally my boss tried to hit on the same woman later in the evening and he failed miserably)

I'm a married man so I bragged about this to my wife and we had a good laugh.

Recently a woman that likes me ran her hand up and done my biceps and said "damn that feels good". I blushed like crazy!

When passing some random guy in the mall, he stopped me and told me "Your style rocks". It was awesome!

See, this is what I'm talking about. Those compliments that just stick with you for years and years. You can dig them out like a warm blanket and bask in them all over again.

A few weeks ago I took my 3 year old (and 10 week old baby) to McDonalds. I used to work there - like 14 years ago. One of the guys who was hired with me as crew is now a manager. He stopped and asked if he knew me. I told him my name and he looked me up and down and said "Damn, girl! You've done well for yourself!" which is amazing because I was feeling huge and had a bit of baby blues and did not feel attractive at all.

You should find him and tell him that...I'm sure he is on the internet somewhere. That would make his day.

I can't think of "best compliment ever" but the best recent one was a couple weeks ago. I was walking to the restaurant with my boyfriend on our anniversary, so I was dressed up in heels and a cocktail dress.

We ran into one of his friends that he hasn't seen in a few years.
    Friend: "Hey! How're you doing?"
    BF: "I'm surviving"
Friend: Looks me up and down and grins really broadly and raises his eyebrows:bigsmile: then says to my boyfriend "Yeah, yeah... Looks like you're survivin'  "

I turned bright red and grinned like an idiot all through dinner. :blushing:

I have been working really hard on getting ready for a show coming up and I (personally) think that my thighs are not in proportion to the rest of my body. I mean, they fit the curves and all, but not the way I would like, so I have been working extra hard on slimming them down (inside and out). One day, after telling me to focus on them, my husband said "your thighs are really starting to slim down."

Then, when I got to the gym that evening my trainer told me "you actually may have a shot at winning now..." (because of the difference in my thighs from when I began).

They both came from a very positive place, in that they have not once lied to me to just "make me feel better" about myself or the competition. They want me to win. They both have my best interests at heart and show it by being honest with me from day one.

My best friend's fiance talked to me about proposing before he did it, he wanted to make sure that I understood his appreciation for what i had done for her in the time we've known each other and to tell me I was a part of their family. It meant a lot.

Best Compliment in terms of weight loss:

A nerdy guy (who I had a mega crush on in high school) told me that I was "losing my gravitational pull and looking very fit" I laughed hysterically because in high school we used to joke that as you lose mass (weight) your gravitational pull lessens. I couldn't believe he remembered AND I couldn't believe he could tell, it was via SKYPE for St. Peter's sake!

One night I was at a party and I was in a bedroom waiting to use the restroom. There was one other guy in the other room and the the guy I had a massive crush on came walking in and sat next to me on the bed. Out of the blue, the other guy said to him, "She's beautiful isn't she?" and my crush answered simply, "Yes." I almost melted into the bed. Ah, but that was back in my youth.

More recently some wonderful person sent me a PM to ask me if my age was right because I didn't look that old. Bless her soul! :blushing:

This happened when I was only 2 weeks into MFP.
I was bummed out one evening and was finishing up the 2nd half
of my workout for that day, when my hubby stops me and said,
"I'm so proud of you for what you're doing." so I asked him why.
His response, "Because most people would have quit by now," Then he gave me a bear hug.

I had one of those skin moments too. :blushing:
I was shopping was shopping in an LA drugstore, and this older woman (I would guess around 70) came up to me and just gushed about my skin and complexion.... saying how beautiful it was.

She made me thankful and have a skip in my step for a long time.

Random compliments from complete strangers stick with people much longer than the constant ones of friends and family for some reason... They arrive unasked for and fill you with such thankfulness.
