What do you usually eat for breakfast and lunch?
I have been eating Special k for breakfast and lunch since January and I have lost weight but my Fiance keeps telling me that can't be healthy.
What do you think? I also want some more idea's because I do need a break from it but I need some other healthy idea's.

wow you ate that every day for 9 months!!! congrats.. I could never lol
  • for breakfast I usually have a piece of whole wheat bread with peanut butter, lunch changes daily but today I'm having a nice big salad with some cooked chicken breast
  • I eat Fiber plus carmel crunch cereal for breakfast on the week days and loaded veggie egg white omeletts on the weekend.

For lunch I usually bring whatever I prepared the night before for dinner. If I dont have left overs or it was a "Splurge"night. I bring salads loaded with veggies and low cal dressing.

I plateau'd a couple times during my weight loss, and in a few of the blogs on here it suggested that you need to vary your diet and exercise regularly to help prevent this

My typical breakfast is two egg whites and one whole egg, and a slice of whole grain toast. Sometimes I add a bit of salsa and 1/4 of a sliced avocado. That's what I had today and it got me 291 calories and 18 grams of protein.

Lunch is trickier - a lot of lunchmeats are high in sodium, so kind of have to watch those if you're tracking your sodium. I eat tuna about once a week - pile half the can (mixed with 1 tsp mayo and a chopped dill pickle) onto one slice of bread. BBQ Pop Chips are a weakness, so I often have a 1/2 serving (about 10 chips) of those with whatever I eat for lunch. That was yesterday's lunch and it was 238 calories & 19 grams of protein.

Wraps are a good lunch choice - avocado (instead of mayo), turkey, lettuce or fresh spinach, tomato, a little cheese and roll it up. Reminds me, I need to buy some wraps!

I would say congrats on sticking to something like that for 9 months, but your fiance has a point, if you dont learn how to eat "normal" foods while losing weight whats going to happen when you reach your goal and no longer "need" the speacial K cereal and start eating normal foods again? You will have no idea what proper portion sizes are or how to balance your calories throughout the day

I usually eat yogurt for breakfast and a piece of fruit. Sometimes a Fiber One bar and a piece of fruit.
Lunch is usually a cheese stick, crackers and fruit or canned chicken on 12 grain bread.
I don't mind eating the same things over and over because it's easy. I hate thinking about food!
I try not to eat a lot during the day because dinner time is so important to our family, I want to be able to eat with them and enjoy whatever we are having. I try to log dinner early in the dayso I know how much wiggle room I have for lunch.
  • I drink a Shakeology for breakfast (half of one actually me and DH split it) and I either do another shake for lunch if hubby and the boys are having unhealthy food and since I love the shakes it works for me but if we are eating somewhere I can eat healthy too I do like today I had a sub:)

i agree that i am impressed you could the same thing for two meals a day everyday for that long. i also agree that it isn't the best plan for your body, although not a terrible choice there are so many other nutrients out there and other ways of getting them. My breakfast varies-some options are protein bars and fruit, egg white omelets with soo many veggies (my favorite), low calorie toast with peanut butter and fruit, whole grain waffles, yogurt smoothies, etc. when you say "healthy" do you mean low calorie or do you mean actually "healthy"? for lunch they vary as well, sandwiches with 2oz of lean protein like turkey or chicken, veggie wraps (again a favorite) salads-just make sure to add a protein, tuna, chicken, black beans, chickpeas, etc to help fuel the body, any kind of wraps-flat out wraps are only 90 calories and you can stuff them full of all kinds of goodness.

I just read an article about losing weight and what you should do about your days and times of eating. I think that it's pretty relevant.

    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/lose-weight-around-the-clock-2538017/

Some ideas for breakfast, try an apple with a low fat yogurt or yogurt with some of your whole grain cereal mixed in. Peanut butter and Jelly, (full of protein). Lean cuisines have breakfast items now too. What I have heard is make breakfast your biggest meal of the day because you have all day to work it off and make dinner your smallest meal of the day because you will be sleeping sooner and don't burn off the calories.

    Hope this helps! Good Luck!!

OMG!!! How could you have followed the Special-K diet for 9 months and not have faded away to a whisper

Breakfast is a variety of things:
    Cheerios,
Rivita, cottage cheese and smoked salmon,
sometimes an oat & cranberry griddle scone with paté,
or scrambled egg with either smoked salmon or lean ham on multi-grain bread.

    Lunch:
Rivita, cottage cheese and smoked salmon (if I didn't have it for breakfast)
baked beans with a slice of toast
    Salad with chicken
    Last night's leftovers
    Soup

I do like to get some protein with breakfast and lunch because it keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Soup at lunchtime is very filling and it's quite good to make your own soup as it's delicious and lower in Calories than canned/cartoned soups. I usually also have a banana in the morning too especially if I go out on the bike before I eat.

That's one of those old wife's sayings:

    Breakfast like a King
    Luncheon like a Prince
    Dine like a Pauper

The reality is that while you sleep, you actually burn a lot of calories especially if you have exercised during the day. That's why even a little exercise every day or a full-on workout every other day is so good for you as long as it's regular

My friend makes an egg white omelet and adds reduced fat cheese and/or onion, turkey crumbles... etc.

I have leftover dinner, oatmeal, grits, or fruit and some kind of bread.

If you're eating Special K for two meals a day you totally need some better fiber and vitamins. IMO, the Special K diet is kind of a scam.

Breakfast faves are natural yoghurt (soya for me, but it's not important). In the summer, I'll add berries or fruit. Other times, nuts and seeds (walnuts with a hint of ginger and cinnamon is a great combination)

Scrambled eggs - I usually have 1 whole egg and one egg white. Either with just herbs, or sometimes with a little cheese, or ham, or mushroom, or all 3....

Porridge oats - add stewed apple, almonds, cranberries to liven it up.

Lunches - google bento boxes for some great inspiration on lunch boxes. I love to make what I call salad, but there's rarely any lettucey leaves. Mix up some of:

Some firm veg - tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers
Something a bit fancy - marinated artichokes or mushroom anti pasta from a jar
Something zingy - black olives, capers
Some protein - chicken breast, ham, tuna, cheese, chickpeas.
Carbs if you like - cold rice or potatoes, chunk of baguette

Add a squeeze of lemon or lime juice and voila!

I agree with your fiancee, you can't be getting all the nutrition your body needs from your other meal of the day. There's plenty more food you can eat that equates to the same calories as Special K.

Special K shouldn't be the only thing you eat - even my DH is branching out from it now (Mostly to Honey Nut cheerios but still!)

    I like these for breakfast:

cereal - which you know, but adding fruit to it is great
scrambled egg (sometimes with tofu or spinach or tomato added)
    egg omelet
peanut butter on bagel or english muffin
oatmeal (a million add ins to this food!)
jam on bagel or english muffin
feta cheese on bagel or english muffin
pancakes (homemade with fruit, freeze and pop in toaster oven to eat)
    waffles (multigrain or homemade ww)

    for drinks:
    tea
    coffee
    milk
(try to keep liquid calories down)

    Lunch:
tuna on wasa crackers with cucumbers
    sandwich
pasta salad (tons of add-ins here too)
    veggie and rice stir fry

hope that helps - look around on the board for a zillion more ideas!

and drink tons of water throughout the day!!
  • Thank you everyone, I really need to start eating other things for breakfast and lunch and I will start tomorrow.
Everyone gave great food choices and they all sound so good!
We were literally going through 5 gallons of milk a week and a lot of it was from my cereals.

Yeah, the timing of when you eat is totally irrelevant. I never have breakfast, cant face food in the morning, and normally have turkey chunks in toast for lunch.
