I walked around the inside perimeter of wooded property that is 1.7 acres of uneven ground 10 x's.

This took me about 30 minutes.

Do I use the moderate walking selection? It seemed to me to be more than moderate walking since the ground was so uneven and it felt like hiking to me.lol However, the hiking catagory lists with weight being carried and I wasn't carrying anything.

What are ur suggestions for logging this?

Thanks :-)

I would suggest getting a HRM. I got a good one from Walmart for like 28.00. It will tell you how many calories your burned, your heart rate, and of course keeps the time too, and tracks your workout time!

The only way to accurately calculate it is with an HRM...but if you don't have one...I am not sure. Sounds like hiking to me...I would make my own catagory if you can.

Since it's all estimates (even HRM), go with the moderate walking - it might not take into account all of the calories you burned, but it will at least get close.

I like to get out and do a bit of country walking at the weekend, I just count it as a brisk walk and have any extra calories burnt as a bonus. Best way is an HRM if you want to be totally accurate.

I don't have a HRM and I am not going to get one. (I don't believe they're that accurate and for that reason don't want to spend the money. Lots of things affect your heart rate- not just how hard you are working out...)
There is a thing in there I have used for walking hills in a similar circumstance.

  • Thanks everyone ;-)

I appreciate all ur suggestions and opinions.
  • If you have a smart phone, there is a great app called iMapmywalk. It has a gps tracking so it will tell you your speed, distance and time. You can then go into MFP and put it into your exercise. You can log walking, running, biking etc. I have used several others, but it seems to be the most accurate.
