I be stickin to this seeing results in different areas.
I’ve lost near 5st since January. (70lbs)
I go through a lot of plateaus which used to discourage me but I’ve figured them for the most part. Usually it’s a scale vs muscle vs fat game. The more I move the more muscle I get ... which is highly new and strange to me body 😂! But muscle weighs in more. And while I develop it ... my scale stalls out. I’m consistent with a 1200 calorie intake which mean I have no where to go but down on the scale. If I want it to budge faster I need to keep my step goals and movement goals up.
I move 500 steps every hour for 12 hours a day at a minimum. I set it to my fitbit and it keeps me honest. I try for two 30 minute power walks a day even if it’s in the house round and round in circles due to inclement weather.
I’m not excited about it anymore. It just needs to be done. Because otherwise I’m going to die. And I’m not looking for that. I like food. I’m an actual baker. A professional bread maker. I make bread for a living. I am a yeast historian. I have been eating my work for 30 years😂 Eating my work and loving it my whole life.
I didn’t mind being Mrs.Claus ...or the round Irish baker people love the sheer smell of because I always smell like fresh baked bread. I don’t mind being fat. But it appears me heart and brain had different ideas. Shortly after a brain aneurysm and a heart attack ... me and me organs have come to an agreement ... they will let me share this body with them on the condition I pitch in on repairs and upkeep ... other wise they are evicting me.
Alas we have mutually agreed upon a whole body reboot ... less me more my organs😂
I still smell like bread ... but my insides aren’t full of it anymore. This near 300lb life has come to end. I’m no where near my goal weight yet but this Irish lass is’na afraid of hard work... I’m not sure where I be going but I sure do love this journey!
I loved this post and your way of writing. Welcome to the group! It's wonderfully supportive and it sounds like you've had a true reckoning between body and mind. You can do this!3 -
Trying not to eat tonight. Im at my calories for the day. I’m expecting a couple of pounds to drop soon....and so close to wonderland again. I have a doctors appointment in two weeks and I refuse to weigh more than I did last year. It’s amazing how hard it is to lose and so easy to gain. Hopefully will be a few pounds less than last year.3

I was here in October, and completely forgot to check in in November, and here we are halfway through December... Oops.
SW 9/20: 328
CW: 296
GW: 195-210
I'm 32 and 5'10". My goal by the end of the month would be to see below 295. I've been working on C25K and I got a kettlebell and doing yoga.6 -
I'm clearly doing a bit better because yesterday I felt weird about not logging all day. It was a nice familiar relief to log my breakfast, and prelog my dinner.
I kind of know what I'm having for lunch at my mother's house, but I'm not entirely sure of all of it, so I'll just log it when I get back. We'll see. Either way, it's a bit of an anomalous day because I don't eat cake and ice cream every single day, and I'll probably have some today.
I'm going to leave in about thirty minutes with two large laundry baskets full of presents and my birthday cake so that we can celebrate my birthday (I was 49 yesterday) and open the Christmas presents while I'm there to see people's faces.4 -
Happy Birthday @AlexandraFindsHerself1971 !! Hope you have a wonderful day today as your celebrations continue!2
-
Well, I had good intentions for this month but the combination of working 7 days a week plus holiday shopping/shipping and not being with my family for Christmas for the first time ever have kind of gotten the better of me. I've gained a pound or so but have decided to just do what I need to do to get through this month. I can't believe it's the 18th already! Hope everyone hangs in there and I'll be back for an end of the year weigh in and goals for the new year.4

Weigh In Time!
Progress (lbs)
12/4: 278
12/11: 276.4
12/18: 275.8
Notes:
I didn't lose as much as I wanted this week, but I still dropped a bit of weight so I'm considering it a win! I'm thinking that the culprits this week were decreased activity from decreased campus time+extra study/sitting time and going over my calories a few times with unplanned snacks. Going into this next week, I'm going to aim for 30 minutes of additional activity each day and make some snacks for movie nights
Oh! I also found out that I'm getting a new pair of vegan running shoes! I'm pretty excited, since my old (non-vegan) pair broke down last summer and I hadn't been able to replace them yet.5 -
Weigh-in day!
Weigh Ins (lbs):
11/13 (Initial): 252.8
11/20: 250.4
11/27: 250.6
12/4: 250.6
12/11: 248.0
12/18: 245.2?!?! WAT?
12/25:
I'm gonna need to sit down and really crunch some numbers soon - I have no idea how the scale keeps going down. Like, as problems go, it's not a bad one to have, but I just don't see how a 5'2", obese, mostly-sedentary woman (with PCOS, no less!) can lose 6 lbs in 5 weeks eating an average of 2700 calories per day, unless I've been retaining HELLA water, and I feel like I've been staying pretty well hydrated most of the time (although I am also a fan of the sodium so ??? biochemistry is wild).5 -
I'm proud of myself this week. I thought I'd be in full vacation mode now but unfortunately many of the orders I shipped out weeks ago are lingering in transit and I'm taking the brunt of my customers' anger and stress. They can't leave 1-star reviews for the USPS so they do it for my business. It sucks but I'm not stress eating. I'm doing the opposite and really caring for my mind and body as I deal with it all during what was supposed to be my time off.
People don't realize that we (Etsy sellers or other small businesses that rely on e-commerce) are at the mercy of the shippers. I got every order out the door extra early and now they are stuck at distribution centers along with 10 million other delayed packages. That's 10 million per DAY between Fed Ex, UPS and USPS. This year is unprecedented because of the pandemic, vaccine shipments, and DeJoy's gutting of the post office. There are almost 20,000 postal workers out sick with coronavirus. All the delivery drivers I see are utterly exhausted.
I wish everyone would take a big breath in and have a little perspective. There is *nothing* normal about this holiday season. If you're lucky enough to be here, and doubly lucky enough to be able to afford to buy gifts for people, then maybe just chill the f out and recognize that your package may not arrive in time!
Anyway, thanks for letting me rant. I'm just sharing the reminder to be patient and, if you're not already doing so, be extra kind to your delivery drivers and mail carriers.
I've managed a Yoga With Adriene session (I adore her) almost every day this week, just made a big batch of soup, and have been logging all my food even and not really depriving myself of everything but not binging either. It's been a good, healthy week.7 -
@changeforeverlj I am sorry to hear about the loss of you friend and about your other friends that are ill too.
@pamiede I hope your recovery is going well.
@MuttiNM I am not surprised that your Mom tested positive for COVID 19 from how you described her not having any energy. I am glad you aren’t having any symptoms. I can’t wait till you get tested and hope it is negative. There was one person at my Mom’s retirement community who went out for Thanksgiving and got COVID 19 so she and the whole facility went on lock down. My Mom is very lonely. We try to call her as much as we can. She is sleeping too much but so far hasn’t gotten anything. Her place is being very careful. We installed another Alexa in her place.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I hope your birthday was great!
@wanderinglight I don’t use ETSY much but found some face masks with a high thread count I like there and not on Amazon. It takes a bit longer to get the masks but they are worth it. I feel like with the pandemic we all need to give each other some room. I feel I am fortunate to be able to work from home and am grateful to places we get take out. I am not looking for perfection since so much is out of our control. Hope all gets sorted.
So working full time is impacting a few things. One is checking in here as much as I would like. The other is struggling to get exercise. Also meal planning is harder. However we have so many celebrations in December. My husband’s birthday, then our anniversary, today, then of course Christmas make the month full. We have ordered take out tonight. We had a nice brunch. I am trying to keep us out of stores but my husband went out yesterday anyway and so I have roses and chocolates today. Some of the chocolates are intense dark squares that I will use to avoid worse sweets in the next month and dark chocolates are good for you if they aren’t too sweet.
My calories have been generally low except for these celebrations. My weight went up with the new job, started down, went up with the b’day then came down a bit but is up again for some reason. We will have a nice dinner tonight. The one thing I have splurged on is an Espresso machine. We plan to try it out this afternoon. Although I haven’t gotten in the exercise I have been more active. My water isn’t where it should be but better than when I worked full time before. I am planning to bring my weights and resistance bands down to my office so I can get some strength training in. I try and get on the Gazelle when I am waiting for the water to boil for my tea when I have it. I think my next splurge may be an under the desk elliptical.
I miss checking in with all of you and I know it would help me. I am making progress with my new job learning the ropes and I like it. I am not giving up and will find a way to get off the 5 lbs I am fighting now and get back to making progress as soon as I can.
I skimmed through a bunch of pages I've missed and read the last one more thoroughly. Well, back to celebrating 38 years of a wonderful marriage.

@KeriA Hope you have a wonderful anniversary! It's good to hear how things are going with you and the new job. I know this time must be hard for your Mom. My Mom gets lonely, too. She's more outgoing than my Dad and she misses seeing her friends. I got my test result today and it was negative although I've had a sore throat and some congestion the past few days. Hopefully it's just a cold...2

I am happy to hear about the negative test but not about the sore throat and cough. It takes a few days for COVID to show on tests after exposure. Take care. Yes a very nice pandemic anniversary celebration. Didn't lose but didn't gain.2 -
Greetings all!
I’ve been an on/off MFP user for awhile but have been back since August. I’ve got a long road ahead so would love to inspire and be inspired!
Age:49
Current weight:298
Starting weight:346
I’m north of the Seattle area, so it’s dark and grey way too early so I find many reasons for curling back into bed! I am working from home (thanks Covid) and have the next 2 weeks off. I’m just starting to focus on my movement and am using the wii fit, and my Fitbit to try to get some activity starting.
My goals include focusing on getting my fruit intake up, watching my sweets (was prediabetic at my last physical!), and increasing movement. I can get derailed easily if I’m off schedule, stressed, influenced by folks around me, rain, sun—just about anything! 😊 but I’m feeling more positive lately and really want to take a serious look as I’m getting close to that birthday!

Things are going pretty well for me. I'm not quite where I feel ready to go back to seriously losing the weight, but the logging is going okay and I'm feeling some of the anxiety around it easing. I think by the beginning of next month I will definitely be ready to buckle down to it again. And the fact that when I "eat what I want" I still eat under maintenance is a good thing to know.
I have also learned that if cake is in the house I will eat it, and the same with homemade cookies, and the same with my sweet bread. Sooo we just won't have any in the house until I've got the eighty pounds off. There's no point in making this any harder for myself than it has to be.
A lot of my anxiety is now transferring to the exercise bike, but I keep telling myself that he uses it, he likes it, if it winds up just being his thing it's not a waste of money, and no one is making you do anything. It would be better if the gym was safe because I would just get up and go and that would be that. That works for me. But it's not safe, and I have just found out that my sister's husband is very sick, and so I need to be extra careful.
Yeah, that. He'd been sick and on a couple different antibiotics, and then they found out that he has metastatic cancer and at this point has 18 months. He's in his fifties, and they have a 7 year old daughter. I don't like my sister, but I wouldn't wish what she's going through on anyone.3 -
Non Scale Victory... I'm not sure how many of you use the measurements in addition to the weight. I also have a couple of custom settings. (bra band and also 3 inches below belly button for belly). Pleased to say that I have lost between 1/2 to 1 inch on each of: bust, waist, bra band, hips and belly (3 inches below belly button) since 1 November. I was told it is best to measure every 2 months to see changes. Although my weight is only down about 10 lbs since that time, glad to see the progress in measurements. Doing the happy snowman dance!

Just found this thread. I lost 80 pounds in 2018 and 2019 and gained 40 of it back in 2020. I finally started reining myself back in last week. My goal for this week is to log all my food and be curious about WHY I am eating. I'm an emotional eater and totally zone out when I am moving towards a binge.

Ugh! I seem to be going the wrong way! But, I am not overly anxious about it. December has always been difficult, and one pound up isn't so bad as I am still down two for the month. Now I am stuck at home due to a HUGE snowfall overnight - like, over 12 inches between about 9 pm and 7 am and it's still coming down! so there's not much I can over indulge in except for the veggies I ran out and got yesterday before the storm. I have cleared my porch of snow, that has to be good for a bit of exercise! I am just waiting for some friends to come help me with the drive, car, and walk as it's way too much snow for my arthritis. I will still be out there shoveling some of it, but if I had to do it all alone it would take me until Christmas!
I haven't been on line much so lots to catch up on. I am cheering for and commiserating with those who need it!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas

Weigh-in Wednesday!
Age: 31 (32 on December 28) Height: 5'5"
Highest weight: 320 lbs (end of pregnancy weight, June 2020)
12/23: 289.4
12/16: 290.2
12/9: 292
12/2: 289.4
1st GW: 220 lbs, so I can change blood thinning meds (had deep vein thrombosis in October).
2nd GW: 180 lbs (weight I was at in high school).
3rd GW: 160 lbs.
First off, merry Christmas, happy holidays to all of you! This year might be a bit different than other years, but it might make us realize what is truly important in life. Or maybe I'm just an eternal optimist trying not to say Bah Humbug this year. Either way, I hope your Christmas is a happy one, filled with love and happiness!
Started solids with my daughter last week. She's doing so well and loves to eat! It's also forcing me to eat healthier, since she's eating what I'm eating.
Off to start my pre-Christmas cooking (cauliflower casserole, green bean casserole, scalloped potatoes and my stepmom's traditional Christmas cheesecake). Cheers everyone!1 -
Hello December (and the last month of a bad year - 2021 may not be a switch to flip but a girl can dream)
Age: 39 Height: 5'6"
Highest: 272.2 (August 2019)
10/1: 239.4
11/1: 238.0
12/1: 236.7
12/2: 234.1(+1.8lbs from last week / -38.1lbs total loss)
12/09: 232.3 (-1.8lbs / -40.8lbs total)
12/16: 232.3 (no change)
12/23: 233.2 (+0.9lbs / -39lbs total)
December Goal: 230lbs Be kind to myself and end December with a loss.
I am going to adjust my December goal because I am struggling. I am struggling with being so busy and not having time to exercise like I want/need to. Along the same lines of being so busy I have not been planning/prepping like I need to. I have done more fast food this month but haven't done as much as I would have in the past. I just don't want to completely go off the rails and gain 10lbs in the next 2 weeks (which is completely doable) but I also don't want to give myself more stress than I already have just because I'm not sticking strictly to my calorie budget.

Im scared to post my details in here but I hope to find some weight loss buddies in here to support and to be supported by...I am struggling with depression and have no family or friends IRL. I have a 6 yr daughter who I would like to be a better role model to...Please add me if you have space for an extra buddy4

@KMC55 Being kind to yourself is the most important thing. Maybe there's someone out there who IS motivated by shame and insults and negative self-talk, but I'd wager that's not most people. You're still here, and you're aware of the choices you've made recently that aren't serving your goals, and I'll bet that's still miles ahead of where you used to be, so good on ya!
@SunnyBunBun79 welcome! I've only been posting in this group for about a month and a half but I've found it to be a very positive and supportive place, you're in good company!
I've been talking about it for years, since I started carrying a journal, that I wanted to set up a 600-Calorie Lunch Generator spread somewhere in it. I think 2021 is going to be the year I do it. My plans are still vague at this point but I think I want to start with a recipe collection (might need a separate journal just for that, LMAO), maybe come up with a handful of meals to cycle through each month or so, like a 4-6 week rotation. I offered to start prepping lunches for my husband as well, since he'll be going back to school next month. He took me up on it, so the more planning and thinking I can do in advance, the smoother this will go. The big question mark right now is what access to refrigeration and reheating he'll have at school and in clinic.5 -
Weigh in Wednesday
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
11/30: 184.4
12/2: 183.4
12/9: 180.8
12/16: 178.8
12/23: 176.4
12/30:
12/31:
Dec. GW: anywhere under 185 would be a win
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)
Weekly exercise goals:
- exercise bike 5 times per week - 3/5 (only 30 minutes each time instead of 60)
- strength training 2 times per week - 2/2
- chair yoga 4 times per week - 4/4
- steps onto aerobic step platform twice a day at least 3 times per week - 3/3
I've lost more than projected the last 3 weeks. I'm not sure why as I'm hitting my calories. I'll have to see if the trend continues. If it does, I'll have to try to figure out what's going on. And if it doesn't, I'll have to adjust to the losses slowing down to where they should be.
I've been sick most of the week so I didn't quite meet my exercise goals. I'm just happy I was still able to get some exercise in on the days where I didn't feel the worst. I've also continued with the deep-clean frenzy on the days I didn't feel too bad. I've been trying to purge things while doing the deep-clean so I can start the new year lighter in more ways than one.
I had to get another Covid-19 test since I developed symptoms the night before I had the first test. I had my 2nd test yesterday. Hopefully I'll have the results tomorrow but they said it could take up to a week. My dad had to go to the hospital on Saturday due to having trouble breathing. That was 3 weeks after he first tested positive. I was surprised he started feeling worse so long after first developing symptoms. It turns out he has pneumonia. He had it 3 weeks ago and it wasn't improving so they finally put him on antibiotics. He's supposed to be discharged today which is good for him but will be hard on my mom since she's still dealing with her own bout of Covid. Supposedly there will be some home health care for my dad. I'm hopeful my quarantine will still end after tomorrow (depends on my test result) and that I continue to feel better so that I can go help them out for a few days.
Hope you all are well. A very Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!4 -
@Abbybabbyboo I live in the NW corner of Seattle so pretty close to you. Fun having snow this week and then the next day we took a short walk in the sun. I am working at home too now but was furlough earlier in the year and got laid off. Now I have a better paying job working remotely. Today I am taking my 1 day of leave I have to before the end of the year. I used to get the week between 1Christmas and New Years off but I have had enough time off this year so I am fine working next week. I am struggling after losing more than 15 pounds earlier now that I am working full-time again and have less time for exercise and cooking at home healthy foods.
@AlexandraFindsHerself I agree the gym isn’t safe at least where I am and this area is better than most in the US. I am glad it is going pretty well now for you. I hope you had a happy birthday. I think it was around when we were celebrating our anniversary.
@IsETHome great NSV
@osier5 great job reining in. You will be back in Onderland soon.
@MaxCat1000 I think you are doing great for December and hope you get shoveled out soon.
@archiv88 Yes I am about to start my Christmas cooking after posting here.
@KMC55 Except for yesterday when it was sunny so we went for a walk I haven’t gotten much exercise this month either. However I too agree I am doing better than the past with water, and eating healthy at home. Although last year I was going to Aquafit 3 days a week. Try to go for a small loss for the month.
@SunnyBunBun79 If you don’t want to post details here just post how you are doing. I think that checking in here will be helpful. It has been for me. It is a supportive group. Welcome
.
@goal06082021 This year I started by eating healthier breakfasts which was my problem area and lost 12 pounds. Then I started planning dinners just because I wanted to limit shopping with the pandemic and lost some more. Lately I have been working on lunches. I like having leftovers the most but have been getting healthier items around for when there aren’t any leftovers for lunch.
@MuttiNM you posted while I was getting caught up reading other posts! I am glad you got another test. I hope it is negative. Sorry your Dad got pneumonia and I hope he gets home health care and he and your Mom get better soon. Please take care and I hope you feel better soon too.

Well I lost my streak this week. I had even logged in after our anniversary. However it is because my work is picking up which is a good sign that I have gone from just training to actually working. I had a deadline yesterday and one the day before. We also had a zoom holiday get together. We had snow this week but not too much and the next day was sunny so my husband and I took a break from work and got a small walk. My only formal exercise for the week so far and will probably not get more until after Christmas.
Before it started to get busier at work I was planning ways to get healthier while working full-time. I get between 4-6 flights of stairs a day during the week. I track my steps. I am not drinking enough but more than I did when I worked in an office. I plan to take my weights and resistance bands down stairs with exercise routines for my small home office/art room in the basement. After my next paycheck I plan to get an under the desk elliptical. We have a small house and my Gazelle is in the living room since no one comes over except my youngest’s boyfriend.
I expected to gain around 5 lbs with going back to work but determined to stop it at that and turn it around as soon as possible. Well I gained another pound with celebrations but I lost it and stayed steady. I really stay under my goal weight otherwise and I lowered that recently. Just this morning I was down another pound so I have now 4 lbs to lose to get back to my pre-job weight. I actually cook so much on Christmas Eve I usually don’t gain over Christmas due to the increased activity. I used to have my whole family over for an international buffet dinner.
I get special cheeses and salami, hot coppa, smoked salmon, make stollen, German potato salad, marinated mushrooms, pecan pie, Calabrese tomatoes and Caesar salad. This year I am just making less of everything since there is only 3 of us. I am only leaving off a few things. I usually don’t cook on Christmas day since we would go to my nieces or brother’s house for Christmas dinner so since we aren't doing that this year we plan to get Chinese take-out. We will have a family zoom Christmas day too.
I go to Pike Place Market every year on this day to get special items for Christmas Eve. DeLaurenti's there has the best deli meats and cheeses. This year I ordered ahead for contactless pick up and went to the famous fish market that throws the fish to get my smoked salmon. They were busy filling orders but there was no line so I safely got it. It was nice to find a safe way to continue my Christmas traditions. So I thought I better check in before I start cooking. I mostly cook things tomorrow but I will bake the pie today, make croutons and do pre-prep for some of the salads today.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and I will wish you Happy New Years later. Hope by then I will have lost most of this small gain.5 -
I guess you can call this an NSV - I was informed today that my workplace is closing early tomorrow at 12:30, but because of that, all scheduled staff are to report to work at 8 AM regardless of normal Thursday start time. My very first, immediate reaction was "but then I won't have time to work out tomorrow morning!" So, I guess the daily morning workout habit is pretty well ingrained now. I suppose I'll just do it when I get home. Maybe hubs will even join me, since it's not at 7 AM this time!

Hello everyone, just wanted to check and say hello to say I hope you have the best holiday possible. We are in lockdown here in Ottawa starting on December 26 for a month but I am so grateful as we are well ( my husband has cancer so we are super careful right now) , my kids, their husbands and grandkids are doing well too. Wanted to send out a word of comfort for all those who are struggling right now or have lost loved ones. Thinking about you all.

Well, I have gotten in the habit of taking my morning medications every day, so that is a good thing. I now need to get in the habit of taking the evening set. It's mostly supplements so it's not like missing them will kill me but given the IBS, I'm much more comfortable in general if I get them all in.
Boyfriend is having a hard time and Girlfriend is in a manic episode, so life is mildly interesting here. His hard time is the sort where I really just want to snap "Oh, grow up!" at him, but that will be seriously unhelpful and actually harmful, so I won't. Very frustrating, but he's got to work through it.
