Sigh. I will try to make this as short as possible, while getting my rant out. 2 kids, ages 8 and 10. I used to sleep so well. Before kids. Not blaming them, just saying. Somewhere in the last decade I have developed this irritating as hell habit, in which I can not stop. You see, somewhere in the middle of the night if it be 1 hr after I go to bed, or 5, I get up and have myself a "little" snack. Id say 4 out of 7 nights. With milk, even. Get out of bed, go to kitchen, and eat. thing is.....I generally dont even remember it in the morning. I have to sit and try to remember if I got up. Or not. I feel sooooo good when I dont. If I could stop, I WOULD. I am not awake enough to go "WTH are you doing? Get your *kitten* back in bed!" My husband said I could velcro myself to him as I will not (and I quote) "Be able to drag his *kitten* out of bed" (He is 6'1" 250lb farm boy....lol)........So, go to doctor would be the obvious thing, right? Well, I have read all about this. Seems best choice for drugs (which is what they will give me) is anti seizure medicine. I dont want that. I may need that. ;( If I go to a hotel, I dont wake up. If I sleep in my camper, I dont wake up. Why at home???? This is driving me freeking insane. I guess I am lucky. Most people with this are obese. Which is why you will find I am under in my calories most days when I close my day. Who knows what in God's green earth I am gonna eat while dozing. So, In the end, I guess this is a vent. The very few friends who know I do this are like "You WHAT??" I can see it now. Me, mouth full of noodles, fall fully asleep and crack my damn head on the counter at 3 am. SMH. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Just dont know anyone else who does this besides me out there. Where is my velcro?

That IS strange and I really wouldn't know what else to do besides talking to a doctor.

I know someone that gets up in the night and eats a lot of chocolate. He wakes up surrounded by wrappers in the bed.

I can't say I've had this problem, but have you ever tried re-arranging your bedroom? Maybe just sleeping at a different spot than you have been can help relieve this. I'm only guessing since if you sleep anywhere else you don't have this problem. If you do this, let me know how it goes!

You could lock your fridge and freezer with all snack food inside? Then give hubby key to hide until morning.

I think speaking to a doctor is probably the best solution. They may be able to send you to a sleep clinic or something like that, and there are probably things besides drugs that they can use to try and help you. Sometimes trying to diagnose yourself using the internet can be more damaging than helpful!

I don't think you should decide that you're not going to see your doctor because you already "know" what she's going to say. In other words, I would encourage you to be open-minded and ask for help from someone who might actually have a solution for you. Good luck!

I've heard of this, and I agree with you that jumping into medication might not be the best. I guess you have to find out whether this has a physiological or psychological root (or both). It could be a mixture of sleepwalking/eating, a reaction to stress...who knows, maybe your Dr would be able to guide you in the right direction.
    Good luck!

I have sort of a similar problem, but not quite the same, I remember doing it when I wake up the next day. For me it only gets really bad when I'm sleep deprived like I am now. It's almost like I'm sleep walking.

I would talk to your Dr about it anyway Mine had a ton of suggestions beyond meds, I didn't bother because it's only a problem at certain times and once my daughter's molars finally break through I should go back to sleeping normally again.

I saw a doctor about this, he sent me to a Sleep Specialist it was helpful, and it lead to me getting on this weight loss plan,
    (among other treatments)
There are SO many reasons for lack of sleep, it's helpful to see a Specialist, who can sort out the causes

thank you all...I am certainly not against a doctor, nor looking for a medical fix via internet (scary place! haha).........I did tell one doc and well, she was baffled and that is where it ended. I guess being "able" to maintain a healthy weight has stopped me from going. I guess I have been messing around with trying to figure out what makes me do it, or better yet, why dont I do it on certain days, and in certain places. Makes me think it is possibly something I can "fix". One odd thing I did notice? If I eat a salad around 9pm, a BIG one, 99% of the time, I dont get up. Now I sit here saying "DUH" Make a salad and eat it every night. Worth a shot. As for changing the bedroom around...excellent suggestion!! I have never had the bed in any different spot for the whole time I have lived here, so definately will try it, and let you know how that worked. :) Add to the Ambien, Melatonin, Valerian Root......(not all at once....haha) You guys are awesome. thank you for the suggestions. Will seriously try them all!!

Not the same problem but my son (age 17) has been known to leave his room and hold entire conversations with us or be in a hurry to help someone with something because they are in danger and he has to go. (Has tried to get out of the house on occassion)! The only thing believe it or not that docs have come up with is that he doesn't get enough oxygen when he sleeps and he is actually hallucinating in technicolor. He started using a medicated saline spray morning and night about 3 months ago and hasn't stirred from his bed since. You can get unmedicated saline mists at the drug store. Its just salt water in those, his is medicated because of a nasal infection.

You really need to go to the doctor. Sleep-eating is not normal. Maybe you won't need medication, but if you do, you do. Please make an appointment.

I only skimmed your post, so may have missed important information, but here is what I would try: taping up some strips of crepe paper across as many doorways as you pass through between your bedroom and the kitchen. You will run into the paper as a tactile reminder to STOP and/or at least be slightly more aware of what you're doing. (Crepe paper is cheap and safer to "block" doorways with than other options I can think of, but strong enough that if you walk into it, you'll need a bit of force to break it probably.) Good luck (and again, sorry I didn't read your post more carefully!).

I suggest you go to this website, http://www.unsinc.info/nutrition-response-testing.html
Use the "contact us" button to ask them for a referral to a chiropractor in your area who practices Nutrition Response Testing. These holistic healers can help you figure out what is going on in your body and provide you with all natural, living, whole food supplements to treat the issues. I have used it treat a urinary tract infection. I have used it to treat kidney stones, AND fix my parathyroid, which is responsible for depositing calcium in your kidneys, which causes the kidney stones.

The ER doctor just wanted to give me medications that would treat the kidney stones, but would not fix the parathyroid. I know people who have used nutrition response testing for anything from diagnosing food allergies, to boosting immune system, detoxing different organs, treating illnesses, etc.

Now, whenever I have an issue, I go to my chiropractor and NOT a general practitioner MD doctor. You'd be AMAZED at the the different things these chiropractors can treat naturally!!!

    God bless!
