30lbs Weight Loss Exercise

I have a goal to lose 30 lbs, and I am in a calorie deficit. I enjoy lifting weights and I do some cardio, but should I shift my focus more towards cardio to provoke weight loss? Is there any point in lifting while I am not in a calorie surplus?

Weight loss just requires being in a calorie deficit (burning more calories than you consume). You can accomplish that with and without exercise, be it cardio or lifting.

Exercise is for health and will also allow you to eat more while losing at the same rate. Lifting doesn't burn a whole lot of calories, but it's certainly useful: it will help you preserve muscle while losing weight (or even gain muscle if your deficit is not too aggressive and you're consuming enough protein, and you're still a relative beginner at strength training).

In addition to the excellent response above - do you realise that they intention of MyFitnessPal is that exercise isn't used to boost your chosen rate of weight loss? It's trying to reinforce that exercise is for health, fitness, strength and for life and not just for weight loss.

The calorie goal you got when you did your goal set up is only intended to be your goal for a day with no exercise.
Faster weight loss often isn't good weight loss, don't rush the process only to get to your goal weight and be disappointed.

A good weight training program is more beneficial in my opinion.

All good responses above. In addition if you have 30 pound to lose to get to a normal bodyfat % you are in a calorie surplus. Your body can used stored fat for energy.

My answers not so scientific. Cardio or weights? How do you envision your body 30 pounds down? How will it look 30 pounds from now using only weights? Only cardio?
What do you want to do for the rest of your life? Which do you enjoy more? Running? Or lifting?
