Hello All. Sixty year old man and new to the group. I was told by my Dr. to lose weight (and get in shape, but they didn't actually say that). I started at 200 lbs. and at 5'8", that was a lot for me. I started walking the stairs at a subway stop next to my house. But, I didn't always feel like going over. So, I walk the stairs in my house (15 stairs). Up and down 8 times. And, I bought a nice stationary bike- the one where the arms go back and forth as well. I'm up to 15 minutes a day on the bike and I break it up by lifting 10 lb. weights and stair climbing. I've been doing it for a few months now and maybe lost 5+ lbs. Could I be gaining muscle and offsetting the desired weight loss?

Exercise is great, but you gotta dial in the diet for weight loss. What are you doing on that front?

I’m on Nutrisystem. I dropped 50 pounds on it and kept it off for about 5 years until I went through IVF. I’m back on the wagon with what I know works!

Sounds like you're doing well getting some movement in, but if you're not paying attention to what you eat, you could be derailing yourself. Here's a good thread if you're never really logged foods or done any calorie counting. You can really follow any diet "plan" you like, but you do need to make sure you take in less calories than you use in order to lose weight

You seem to have committed yourself to the "getting in shape" part - well done from a fellow 60 YO.

But diet is by far the major player in losing weight, you need to eat a bit less to lose a bit quicker.

Welcome :) thats great that you're getting in the exercise but as they've said above food intake is an important part of the weight loss process.
Are you logging in your diary?

^this...buy yourself a food scale. Don't 'eye ball' or use measuring cups/teaspoons, etc., (deceiving and very inaccurate).
