How do you push through? -Wheelchair user

Any wheelchair users with chronic pain? I would love to know your methods of pushing through. Need all the motivation I can get

Even if you are not a wheelchair user, I'd love to hear your methods. Getting taken out for a day or two always sets me back and I hate it. Need to figure out a way to push through, lol.

I’m not a wheelchair user but I just wanted to say welcome to the site. I’m sorry you’re dealing with chronic pain. That can’t be easy. I hope you find some support and encouragement here. Feel free to send me a FR if you want 😊
  • Ah, no worries here, it could always be worse! Self-motivation is definitely a weakness of mine, so hopefully I can hear some feedback. I just realized I probably posted in the wrong channel, so I'll go ahead and repost in the appropriate section.

Thanks again for your kind words!

Welcome to mfp :) You will find a goldmine of information in the Most helpful posts(they are the ones on the top) in each of the forums, especially Getting started and General Health, Fitness and Diet.

Also, check out the success stories for motivation. Some of the stories there are truly inspiring, like this one - https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10164678/wheelchair-user-130lbs-healthier/p1
  • Oh, that's fantastic, thanks for the link!

There’s a woman on the Success Stories board who has lost over 100 pounds while in a wheelchair.

You’d have to delve in to find her. I tried searching “wheelchairs” and found a lot of people, though, including a ladies group and a group for CP. maybe someone (hint hint) should start one.

She had one of the best success stories I ever read. Crazy inspirational.

ETA: is been in the past five months or so. Older lady. Not the one above. Haven’t seen that one before. That ones is great!
  • ok great, thanks! I scrolled through the chat rooms and didn't see 'wheelchair', or at least it didn't pop out, I must have overlooked something.

So many inspirational stories, I can't wait to have my own =)

It’s definitely a struggle when you can’t do the physical exercise to shift the calories. Honestly I spend a lot of time meal planning and working out what snacks I’m allowed on what days, then just focusing on hanging on till the next meal comes along. I bought a ring fit adventure for the switch that I haven’t tried yet, I bought it after I found out it has a disability assist mode. So it can be played sitting down. I’m hoping some of the light exercises with the assist mode won’t flare up my pain conditions.
  • Oh, that's very cool about the disability assist mode with the switch. I just got an Oculus Rift and from what I have read there are some disability options for games to keep me active, so I definitely want to look into that as well. I just feel like it will always be so much less cardio that it's almost disheartening to try, but yeah, I just need to do it and see what happens.

Focusing on the calories first seems to be a common thing, so that's my first step it sounds like. Thanks!
