Weird day, surprise ending...

I always take Friday's off from our insurance agency. Things are going very slowly there and I need to find a flexible job. We are bringing in enough to pay office expenses, but not to take home a check. We've been taking it out of business savings since December. Time's up! Savings is getting too low, so I've been applying at the casinos to work swing as a cocktail waitress. I had a fitness client scheduled for this morning but she got sick and cancelled last night. So I had plans for today to just blow off some stress and do what I wanted to do. I had a chiropractor appointment scheduled at 10. Neck and back are out. Since my client cancelled, I would sleep in and then ride my bike to my appointment at 10, then go to my other gym, near her office, and swim. I keep a membership at that gym just for the pool. I work out at the gym closest to my house where I work as an independent trainer. Then I would ride back down the bike path to my regular gym and do my couch to 5k workout on the treadmill since I had run on concrete yesterday. That was the plan....
I could not find my swimsuit or my locker key. I needed a new one anyway, but I really wanted to swim. I'm running out of time. Ok, on to plan B. Ride to my appointment, then down the bike path to the far end to Scheels and buy a new swimsuit, then back past my regular gym for my couch to 5K workout. I take off for my appointment and my freshly tuned up bike feels weird. A block away I pull over and check it out...flat tire. Really? I push it to a gas station and try to fill it up. It was a warp speed leak. So I change my bike shoes for my running shoes I was carrying in my back pack, call and cancel my chiropractor appointment and push it back home..jogging. I am a determined woman. I get home, load it in the back of my car and head for Scheels to get it repaired. I thought maybe tube got pinched during my tuneup. Now working on Plan C. I will go to Scheels, buy a swimsuit while they fix my tire, drive to the bike path, ride a bit, ride into town and get lunch, over to the gym to swim, then back to my car to do the couch to 5K on the bike path.
They replace my tube, I buy a swimsuit, drive to the bike path and unload my bike, change out of my running shoes into my bike cleats, glad to finally get on my bike and take my ride. Everything is going according to plan, I ride the path for a bit, stop for lunch, then go to the other gym. It's been a long time since I've been there. However they have been faithfully sucking the gym fee and locker fee out of my bank account each month. Last time I was there was in February. I noticed they had refinished the lockers. All my swim gear was covered with dust. I hadn't been back since. So today I go inside and I can't get my locker open. They had given me the spare key, but it wouldn't open. They finally had someone come and open it up and it's empty. All my stuff is gone. Goggles, swim cap, ear plugs, short fins, blow dryer, toiletries. I am NOT amused. I wear contacts and have to have goggles when I swim. They assure me that someone will call me today to explain where my things are and why they kept taking out locker fees when I no longer had a locker! They said that they had removed my things when they refinished the lockers but I had seen the refinished lockers last time I was there and my stuff had still been there. No idea why they cleaned it out. So now I can't swim. Fine, I will do my couch to 5K workout on the treadmills here. I open my little back pack to get my running shoes out....ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! I had left them in the car when I put my bike shoes on! I decide just to go paddle around in the pool. Nothing, nothing, nothing is going right. I am feeling exceedingly cranky.
So I put on my swimsuit and go out to the pool. I swim sort of lamely up and down the lane, not putting my face in the water for fear of washing out a contact lens. The guy in the next lane is looking at me and I feel the need to explain my odd swimming style. No goggles. I told him what happened. He was properly sympathetic and even better, had a spare set of goggles that he went into the locker room to get for me. What a sweetheart. i did 20 minutes of swimming, but his goggles weren't padded around the eye sockets, kind of a hard rubber, they gave me a headache, so I decided 20 was enough. I went in and got dressed and went in search of the woman who was supposed to have the answers to the whereabouts of my possessions. After waiting 15 minutes for her, she finally showed up. I politely (thank goodness I had gotten to swim and calmed down) registered my displeasure and asked for a refund of my locker fees. Things were a little terse at first, and she tried to tell me it had been removed when the lockers were refinished, which wasn't the case. When I mentioned that I kept the locker so I could swim when I wanted to and even if I didn't show up for a long time, I still wanted my things in there, she asked me why I worked out at the other gym and not this one. I told her I was a trainer that was where I trained my clients and it was just more convenient. She started asking about my certs and training style, then offered me a job! Go figure! It will work out well, flexible so I can still work at our office as well. Doesn't pay great, but at least its something. Just a weird day all around!
PS...out of sheer determination I got in a 20 mile bike ride and a 20 minute swim. Never did do couch to 5K.
