Hello This is my official first day! Hello everyone ๐Ÿ˜

Hello! I'm Quania. I'm 27 yrs old with 5 kids. I weigh 215 currently with 230 being my heaviest overall weight. I'm 5'6 and my biggest thing is fast food and sodas. Today is 1/19 and I'm officially starting the day off with cutting the fast food and sodas. I set a reminder to drink a glass of water every 2 hours. I can literally count on both of my hands, how many times I drunk water last year๐Ÿ™„. Not healthy at all right?... I bought an elliptical earlier this month and only used it twice. I'm changing that today also. I set a reminder to use the elliptical for 30 mins, 3 times a day. I will only eat between the hours of 12 and 8.

Here is what I really need help with and is my reasoning of using Myfitnesspal. I don't know exactly what kind of food to eat. I'm very picky and there is a lot of "don't". I want to open my taste buds up to new food flavors because honestly all I eat is the same ol stuff.
My "WHY" to losing weight is because I want to look good in my clothes again and to become more active

Welcome to the MFP Community, and congratulations on taking the first step! :)

What foods do you like and what foods don't you like? Maybe we can offer some suggestions on foods to swap so you get better nutrition from your choices.

You can eat all sorts of foods when you're trying to lose weight, as long as you are eating less than you're burning. However, if you're wanting to be healthy overall then you might want to change your eating habits to more closely fit the right macros (fats, proteins, carbs). It's also good to make sure you're getting your vitamins and fiber from foods as much as possible.

I like to browse the recipes section for ideas:

And this is my favorite thread in that section, where members share pictures of their meals:

Welcome! I'm a mom to 6 kids so I understand those struggles.

Good thing is you can eat what you want, just less of it. Start by logging a regular day without cutting anything out. Then start looking at ways to make swaps and hacks to keep you full and under calories. As well as sustainable.

The above linked topics are a source of great information.

Seconding the recommendation to start by logging a normal day - maybe even a normal week. Much easier to see what kinds of changes you can make if you know where you're starting from. If you want to do intermittent fasting (which is the name for when you only eat during a certain span of time within a day), go right ahead, but it's not required to be successful with calorie counting - the calories don't know what time it is, after all.

Also, I would advise building up to 90 minutes on the elliptical. 30 minutes is longer than you think it is, it's 100% OK if you jump on there today and feel like you're dying at minute 10. You can work up to it.

Making one small, incremental change at a time is how you build sustainable habits. It's a lot to keep track of when you decide to change up your entire routine all at once - I don't have any kids, but I imagine the mental load of all their various needs and schedules, combined with inventing a whole new schedule for yourself from scratch, will be a very hard thing to balance. I don't mean that you shouldn't try to do hard things, you absolutely should, that's where change comes from - but you don't have to live life on Nintendo Hard mode to see results.
