How do I get into running? How should I start out? I'm NOT a runner by any means, but I would LOVE to become one.
I go to the gym a few times a week, and I've gotten really good at power walking on the treadmill, so does anyone have advice on how to ease my way into amping things up?

My goal is to be able to run a 5K in the spring time!! Any help, comments or words of inspiration are GLADLY welcome!

  • Try the Couch to 5k Program, it's a good way to ease into it and it incorporates walking as well.

I ran a half marathon last weekend and believe me if I can do it, anyone can! Don't put too much pressure on yourself to go too fast or long straight away, just go really slow and you will enjoy seeing improvements from week to week if you keep at it.

    Good luck!

If you have a smartphone get the Couch to 5 K app ( I love the one by Active.com) It's soooooo easy..it tells you exactly what to do, no thinking about it at all

I just completed my first 5k race this morning. I used the couch to 5K program. This program starts you off fairly slowly and gradually increases the durations of your running intervals. There are apps available for smart phones - I used C25K Lite for Android and it was free. Best of luck!

Well since you're looking to do a 5k the Couch25K plan is pretty prefect. I got mine on coolrunning.com I believe. Starts out real slow and builds you up over 9wks. Tons of people on MPF have tried it.
