Hi everybody. I'm new to this site, but I love what I've read so far and everybody is so inspirational. I joined for that fact alone, as it is really hard to drop the pounds alone.
I need to lose 72 pounds; however, I have lost the same 30 pounds several times over the past 14 years, only to find those 30 pounds again. I walked religiously everyday for an hour (even in 20 degree weather with a scarf over my face) and I was on track until I tore a calf muscle playing vollyball on a hill with my daughter - I never returned to walking and gained 30 pounds right back. My most recent quest was joining a weightloss clinic after I saw my friend drop weight like crazy using a high protein and Phentermine regimine. I tried this for six months and dropped 30 pounds in a blink, but my body got used to the pills and the weightloss stopped. This was really a blessing, since i knew this method was not being honest to myself, not to mention dangerous. I decided the best method is the real method - count calories, keep a food journal, and exercise. You know, burn more calories than you consume. Duh! I am hoping with everybody's support, I can actually surpass my 30 pound stopping point and lose all 72 of those nasty pounds. I'm tired of looking at them!
Thanks for creating this webiste. I've read others comments and blogs and I'm ready to go! This is SO inspirational and that is exactly what I needed......at least until somebody creates a "Skinny-o-matic" machine that you can step into and come out the otherside slim and trim. Oh yeah, I'm there!!

Yep, good old calorie counting and exercise! It worked for me but somehow I let myself get lazy and gained back 20 lbs of the hundred I lost 3 years ago. So far reading this site has me really motivated to finally reach my goal weight. It's a great help to know other people are going through and have overcome the same issues.

I'm trying to do the same thing, exercise and eat right, not diet, to lose weight and hopefully keep it off for good. I lost 50 pounds last year, from 2/10-10/10 with very strict dieting and no fat in my diet, but as soon as life got shaken up I gained 35 back. I stopped restricting my food, with the excuse that it was only until we got settled down in the new house, and then spent four months eating like I was starting a diet the next day, and never started that diet.
Now I'm exercising 6 out of 7 days, something I very rarely did before (maybe a pilates video every couple of weeks), and tracking my calories very closely. I've lost 10 pounds, but it's been slow going on the weight since I am building up muscle at the same time, and as we all know, muscle is more useful but heavier than fat. I've lost an inch and a half around my waist and half an inch around my hips, which is awesome.
We can do this. This isn't a diet, this is a life change to becoming a healthier us. I'm so glad you are joining us
Feel welcome to buddy me, I find the most inspiration in seeing all the great things my buddies are up to.0 -
Wow! Just to say you've lost a hundred pounds is something to be so pround of. Funny how easily the pounds creep back on, but they sure don't come off that easy. If you've lost 100, you'll lose those 20 again too! Best of luck and thanks for the response to my newbie post.0

Isn't it amazing how life's little challenges can put the breaks on weightloss goals. I am hoping by having to account for my actions, I can stick with my goals. I have a tendency of "dieting tomorrow" as well. I noticed your mini-goal is to be under 200 by October. That's my goal too, so maybe we can encourage each other and make that goal together! As soon as I figure out the Buddy thing, I'd like to add you. Thanks!0
