On moving out with Roommates...

Tell your roommate stories from when you were in the roomate years! I am well past them (thank goodness) and can say I had phenomenal roommates for the most part. My only problems were:

1. Roommate paid me direct for rent. Twice it bounced, causing my payments to others to bounce, hundreds in fees, and no retribution without taking him to court.... I had to eat about $300 in losses on that one.

2. Roommate essentially moved in her boyfriend who paid nothing for a year. He did not have a lease elsewhere... he just lived with us five girls for free *LOL*

My college room mate was a total disaster. I had early classes, and she would stay out late partying EVERY NIGHT and wake me up late bringing in whatever the flavor-of-the-week guy was. She also would bring her friends from high school over for days at a time, and they would just make a mess and never leave ---- she even would do this during dead week and finals week and keep me up late.

I am currently a sophomore and my current roommate and I get along alright. I'm in an apartment so we have our own rooms and bathrooms, thankfully. However, I try to be healthy and workout everyday, she does not. I have early classes and do not drink or party, she does. During the school week I don't have people over late, she does. And lastly, I always get left with the dirty dishes and taking out the trash, even if I didn't use them. Besides these, she's really nice.

My roommate freshman year was nice, but she would always stay out late or come in in the middle of the night drunk, turn on all the lights and be extremely loud...while I had 8 AM classes.

This weekend, my roommate is gone, and I am definitely enjoying being alone with my cat. :) However, I'm nervous about next week because I have four tests, a paper and a presentation, all within four days, and I have a feeling I will not be able to concentrate with what she normally does...

Freshman year - my roommate did drugs fairly frequently. Nice girl besides that.
Sophomore year - no complaints there!
Junior year - roommates ganged up on me one night and said that I was messy and needed to learn to clean better. Trust me, I am clean for the most part! If I leave stuff around, it is because I am extremely busy. Two of them dropped the topic, one kept going with it, writing mean notes to me about it until one day I went in her room and told her that if she has a problem with me, to tell me to my face instead of behind my back.
Senior year - I live with the same girls! Now a different roommate wrote a note that said we all need to start being cleaner (didn't target anyone in particular, but...), and now she is kind of being awkward around me which is weird considering she is one of my best friends at school. IDK. I just want to live by myself (sometimes).

I am sadly NOT out of the "roommate years." During undergrad I lived with the same person (plus a couple others) all 4 years, we were best friends, and for the most part everything was perfect.

Now that I'm doing my grad year, I have a different roommate who essentially ignores me unless I do something around the apartment she doesn't like. She frequently complains that I make too much noise in the kitchen (even though I make a HUGE effort to close cabinets slowly, etc...), that I wake her up when I leave for my early morning runs, and tonight she yelled at me for running the dishwasher when "there was still room for a couple of plates." Also, she's constantly having visitors over and they usually end up sleeping on my couch that my grandmother gave me.

I am already sooo ready for this year to be over (but I have to stick it out til May '12! Gah!)

In my freshman year of college, I had the roommate from h***!! She used to lock our room door when I would go down to the "community" showers down the hall. She would play loud music in the early a.m. We had very similar voices on the
telephone and she would talk to my long distance boyfriend at the time and pretend to be me. I could go on and on . . .

To get her back, one time, I put a non-used tampon in her mug of tea . . but made her believe it had been used. We did
not remain roommates for long after that. LOL

My room mate and I got drunk a lot and then got into fist fights with each other. Needless to say, after the six month lease we both split.

I'm really good friends with my ex-roommate now. We just couldn't live with each other. She was really messy. Never did the dishes, never took out the trash, never picked up the living room, never cleaned the bathroom... see a pattern forming? I finally got so fed up with her not picking up after herself that I stopped doing it. I stopped washing her dishes when she just left them in the sink. Eventually I put the dirty dishes in walmart bags and stuck them in her room when she wasn't home. LOL. after that, she finally started cleaning up. As the months went by she proceeded to go thru my things when I wasn't home. At one point my boyfriend and I went to get a DVD out of my bottom dresser drawer (my roomie didn't know I kept them there) and we couldn't find it. She took it upon herself to snoop thru my things and borrow it, along with 20 other DVDs. After that I put a lock on my door that required a key to open it. She finally got the picture. :-) Even tho it was hell, she's a good friend now.

One of my roommates had sex in my bed. And then for good measure, left the condom under the pillow.

Unfortunately, after being divorced, I've returned to roommate years. I thought that buying a house and having roommates to help pay the mortgage would be a good idea, since I couldn't really afford it on my own. It's worse as an adult than it ever was in college.

I've had a roommate who was plastered for a month straight, only getting out of bed to go to the liquor store and Wendy's. He always passed out before he even got half way through his meal. He stole money from me and my other roommate to support his addiction. When I made him move out, I discovered that he had pissed the bed on numerous occasions. :ohwell:

I've watched 40 year old working men spend almost ALL of their waking hours (other than their jobs) playing video games. It ruled their lives. It got to the point that it literally made me feel ill when I would come home from work and walk into the living room to the same scene day after day. Get a life!

I found a used condom on the coffee table one morning. Yum. :noway:

Had a roommate with 10' and 12' Burmese Pythons. Creepy, but I now understand Mowgli's trance in the Jungle Book. I was mesmerized by that thing looking at me. I kind of got used to the snakes until one of them died... and the guy didn't remove it from the enclosure. It stunk to high heaven.

I've had money, guitars, tons of DVDs, a mountain bike, and I don't even know what else stolen by people who split without notice. :grumble:

And worst of all, this week I had to clean out the room of a roommate who killed himself last weekend.

I'm thinking that living under a bridge doesn't sound too bad. :drinker:

My ONE time that I lived with roommates they blew my rent on clothes then complained about having no money.

Also one of my roommates ended up on Judge Judy with her white trash ex boyfriend to claim a few hundred dollars in money that she bailed him out with and he screwed her on.

They also attempted to invite me to sex toy parties multiple times! I denied accordingly.

These weren't my roommates, thank god, but they WERE my renters. I'm not sure what's worse, actually.

I get a call from the neighbor of our rental house. "Hey - you know how you asked me to watch your house? Well, I thought you should know that there are police officers with guns drawn walking around on the property and peeking in the windows."

    Awesome.

Come to find out they were looking for a guy who attacked another guy with an ax and nearly killed him. They heard that this guy was staying at my rental house - he wasn't one of my renters but, as I found out later, our renters were VERY generous with who they let stay at the house. As the police were staking out the place, they looked in the window and saw drugs and paraphernalia all over, so they got a warrant and went in. I had arrived at that point and they let me go in with them. I have never in my life seen such a disgusting living environment. Not to mention, they found a pretty sophisticated pot growing operation in the entire back of the house.

I have absolutely hated every female roommate I've ever had-until now. I think I get along with her because her name is Emily and that's the best name ever.

The only person I have lived with that wasn't a boyfriend WAS my best friend and now due to living together we are no longer friends and its been about 10 years ago, I have never lived with another friend or roommate since. Started fine but slowly she began stealing my mail, nothing big just magazines but all she had to do was ask and I always let her look and read them as well. One day she took a Cosmo from the mail and when I questioned her she scrabbled to get it out of a stack of HER stuff and as I looked at it I realized there were pages torn out!! Then I started realizing things were moved in my room (yes I am one of those who can see the smallest change in their room). Another time looking for a necklace couldn't find it, so when she wasn't home I walked into her room and opened her jewelry box and surprise there it was! But the straw came when I ordered something in the mail and was awaiting it on backorder. I told her to keep an eye out for it (it was a holiday so I was visiting my family) when I got back I asked if it came she said no. After emailing the company and getting another sent, I was throwing something in the trash and low and behold there was packaging thrown away, so I picked it out of the trash and conveniently only the name but not the address and sender was CUT out of the envelope. I went straight to her room and opened her drawers and fold my item with a hole in it and already faded from all the wash and wear she had done!!!! I was more than angry. Plus during all this time at some point she tried to sleep with my bf (now an ex). Needless to say I moved out without notice and we have not spoken since.

I've not had many roommates in my life. If you don't count college, I've only ever lived with one person (not including husband). She was my roommate right out of college (and the reason I preferred to live alone after). She had issues. Mental issues. Panic attacks, what-not. It finally got so bad that she lost her job. Her parents came to her rescue. Again. Six months into our one year lease, her parents had her move back home. We couldn't break our lease, so they just paid her rent and expenses. But since that was technically still her apartment, too, she'd go over there sometimes during the day, while I was at work. She'd have lunch and then leave the dishes out, without even rinsing anything off. I'd come home to wretched smells and messes. It could be days or weeks before she'd come back, so basically I was stuck cleaning up. I got tired of this so I started putting her food encrusted dishes in her room and shutting the door. That way, the next time she came over, the smell would in HER room. Passive aggressive, yes, but I had had enough.

Freshman year at IU - two roommates. One was a ho and one was nuts. Never quite knew who or what I was walking into. Crazy one would cry all the effing time. Just cry, drama, cry, drama.... kill me.
Summer - moved in with the boyfriend. He turned out to be the biggest control freak of all time. Wanted his clothes color coordinated with his hangers and in some stupid order I could never remember. And he used to flush my birth control pills down the toilet. He was a giant homophobe and a lot of my friends were gay. He would climb out windows to get away from them when one would come by. Why on earth I put up with this stuff I have NO idea.
Next up was Amy and she was actually great. Infact, I was probably the bad roommate in this situation. She was super responsible and tidy and well.... I wasnt. haha
Que another control freak boyfriend (which I eventually married)
now I have these 3 adorable little roomies. Theyre loud, messy and they never pay rent. But I love em so much :)

i had 3 temp roommates last year. One had only been there (in the dorm) for a few weeks, and moved out immediately after her last final. Another room was empty and the two other girls were bi*ches (thus why the other girl moved, and one room was empty -- another person moved). The girls picked on the nice girl, and tried doing similar to me, but I put them in their place <.< They were those girls who got a free ride in college because their parents were welfare-cases sooo...they were really ghetto.

They were the only roommates I ever disliked (or even hated), EXCEPT my ex. He had anger, alcohol, and hygiene issues. He was older than me, but apparently got a free ride through undergrad like the other two girls <.<

I had 3 other roommates, and also lived in a single with a lot of other ppl last semester: loved them all.

I "sortta" had roommates when I was a teenager as well. My mom and I hosted an exchange student, and I couldn't stand her. She was extremely spoiled and crazy. o_O Then I WAS an exchange student, and the host family ended up being extremely fake and superficial (almost to a sick-point).

Besides the bad experiences with roommates, the good ones were awesome and I plan to continue having roommates after college (I'm very quiet, but love the company).

my roommate would steal my things....she stole my curling iron once and swore up and down it was hers....I thought it was awful funny that she started locking her stuff up after that....I lost a $50 JC Penney gift card not long after she started locking her stuff as well. I HATE roommates! I loved living on my own after that. I've had nothing but bad experiences with them roommates!:grumble:
  • My college roomate my junior year was nuts! The only thing I can say I liked about her was her boyfriend. He was a hunk, and I believe that there must be something wrong with him to have ended up with her. They would constantly fight about ridiculous things, that she would most of the time come up with. She was just a disgusting slob of a mess. One time while sleeping, I awoke at 5am to him crying and her yelling. All I could say was shut the **** up, and I went back to sleep.
