It's not just the calories that should concern you but rather the fact that alcohol is also a depressant and can affect your metabolism. Now I absolutely go out and still tie one on once and a while, you have to do that stuff or you'll go nuts.0 -
It slows your metabolism. I have a drink now and again, but drinking daily would definitely make it harder to lose weight.0

Personally speaking, I feel so much better without alcohol, and am able to do the elliptical much longer as well. A few years ago, I had a personal trainer 3 days a week. She said it didn't matter how much I worked out, I would not lose much weight while still drinking daily wine. An alcoholic told me, either drink or eat, can't do both. This also results in malnutrition, and those people get thin, but look terrible. Also, its hard with an alcoholic in the same house. So, if you have someone you love in the same household, please don't drink for their sake and for your health and weight loss. Your brain chemistry changes with alcohol, and you will become a very angry person. I also know, the liver filters toxins easier when you don't drink, so weight loss is easier as well.0

Yes, the calories from alcohol are 'meals-worth' and as JNick77 said, it is a depressant. However, it really matters how important that glass of wine is to you? Personally I have a glass, or sometimes 2, every night. I often give up my precious Red for up to 4 weeks but my life is generally happier when I have that option as something I can look forward to at the end of the day. If you can exercise a little more or cut back the calories elsewhere I think it's best to keep it 'in the balance'. If you leave yourself feeling deprived and a 'fatty-who-can't-have-it', then have it and enjoy it! We are not meant to be on diets but making longterm better lifestyle decisions!0

I drink socially occasionally ... for the next day or two I notice I am not hydrated well and my performance & endurance is low in my workouts. I do get through it because I am determined to workout even more after that kind of cheat.
As far as calories ... you may be staying with in your calories but you are not properly fueling.
If you are going to drink alcohol alternate with water to keep hydrated.0 -
I only drink maybe once a weekend its sort of my end of the week relax and treat but i worry that just that one night could effect my whole week at the same time it aso helps keep me motivated to know that at the end of the week i can let my hair down and just be "normal" im not a alcoholic but i do love having a weekly drink and socialisng etc thanks for all your comments its deffiantly helpful im thinking about going on a month complete alcohol ban before the silly season starts , spring has just hit here so now is the time for all the parties and bbqs and family gatherings etc etc so i know i will probably be drinking more than usual just hope it doesnt compromise my diet to much0
