HRM suggestions needed: replacement for Polar FT4/H1

After 7 years, my trusty Polar H1 chest strap has stopped working. I use it with my also trusty Polar FT4 (I know, old school) that seems to be working fine although who knows exactly which is the problem. I think it’s beyond troubleshooting so RIP and let’s find me a new one.

I would love any input on HRMs! I want something simple, basic heart rate and calorie burn. I don’t need to be able to print out an echocardiogram. I’m leaning towards the Polar H9...

Go!

I have the Apple Watch, it does everything except the dirty dishes.

Ha that’s funny. I’m looking for something $100 or below (should have mentioned that above)...

Did you change the battery? Polar are good products, I use wahoo them and would recommend as well.

Yep changed battery, put two fingers on the nodes, wet the back, etc. I love it and I’m bummed out!

Good to know! I’ll look into wahoo thanks!

As a possible replacement to your H1 I really like my current Wahoo Tickr chest strap HRM, far better than my experiences with either Polar and Garmin pickup units. Connects easily (ANT+ and Bluetooth), comfortable, good battery life, no weird spikes or drops.

Used Polar's FT7 and FT60 watches previously, FT7 is just a better looking FT4 in term of functions, FT60 I really liked but neither lasted long enough for me to be able to recommend either.

Be cautious about thinking HRMs are calorie counters though, they are heartbeat counters and depending on your exercise choices your pulse might help give a reasonable guide or can be terribly misleading.

    Thanks! That’s helpful.

Yes - I am an indoor cycling instructor and primarily use it for training and a general idea of calorie burn, thanks.
