Cardio Spinning stats different from Indoor Cycling?

I am using the Peloton and it is registering as Indoor Cycling. I am wondering why it doesn't register as the same amount of calories burned as Cardio Spinning. Does anyone know.
Cardio Spinning is generally double the amount of calories burned.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. Neither "Indoor Cycling" nor "Cardio Spinning" are in the regular MFP exercise database.
There's "stationary bike" (but that is listed in many intensities, not just one) and "spinning", with the spinning one at the same calorie level as two of the levels of stationary bike (the general one, and the moderate one. Those don't seem *crazy* high to me, but some of the higher intensities of stationary bike that are listed do seem kind of improbable. Maybe I'm just a slacker, dunno.
Do you have a fitness tracker synched to MFP that's playing some role in interpreting this stuff, in your case? I'm assuming it isn't the Peleton itself synching?0 -
Maybe give a snapshot of your Peleton workout stats and what you are seeing on MyFitnessPal?
If you get average watts displayed that would be perfect.
At the moment this is a puzzle without any clues.0 -

I'm not sure what you mean by "registering as". Your Peleton should show your estimated power output (watts)...it doesn't have a power meter, but it does use an algorithm based on cadence and resistance to estimate your power output...not quite as good as a dedicated power meter, but likely the next best thing in determining calories burned...just use the calories your bike is giving you and make a custom exercise entry for "Peleton" and manually put in the calories from your bike.1 -
I am attaching a screenshot to show what I am asking about. When I ride the Peloton it registers as Bicycling and not as Spinning. I always make the change to reflect spinning. Wondering why it doesn't automatically register as Spinning because Peloton is a Spin Bike.

The workout lines may be from Apple - MFP allows some variety of naming incoming workouts that must match the existing database.
It's up to the sender to pick an entry name - not MFP.
Apple is getting the calorie burn from ..... ?
Do you have Peleton linked with Apple watch?
Did you select a workout on Apple watch?
Do either of those calorie burns get close to what the Peleton said avg Watts was, or stated calorie burn?
The outside entry, with speed - is bogus if using the database entry with time. Because you weren't outside.
The spin bike entry - is unknown if using the database entry with time. Until you compare it.
Either could have the database name, but calorie burn from a good source.
Or bad source, or no source except time.
Hence the request for Peleton pic too for the puzzle to be finished.2 -
Mr. heybales is giving you helpful technical content. He's great that way.
I'm here to add a little cynicism.
Note the little "R" in a circle next to "Spinning"? "Spinning" is a registered trademark. Neither Apple nor Peleton own that trademark.
Spinning in popular terminology has become a generic, similar to Jello or Kleenex, for us regular people. The finer distinctions are more likely to be followed by marketers, for a variety of reasons, including the potential for legal action by the trademark holder.
This could change, though, because Peleton now wants that "Spinning" word. 😆
