I am starting to wonder if these businesses are intentionally sabotaging the effors of the people out there struggling to lose weight????

Keep in Mind all of the salads over 600 calories...
You could have a McDonalds Big Mac® (540 cal/29g fat/3g fiber/45g carbs/25g protein)

What floors me is a Wendy's Baconator Double (980 cal/63g fat/2g fiber/46g carbs/58g protein) is less than 1000 calories & we know that is unhealthy to eat Right???? So Why are these businesses selling salads over 1000 calories????

    Salad has alwqays been the biggest myth -- and one of the worst thing you could order.
    People just don't realize it because they think "salad" is just lettuce.

    Knowing what NOT to get on a salad is an art that most people ignore :)

    Even at restaurants that have those fancy "under 500 calorie" lunch/dinner -- you don't often see a salad there.

    Maybe this is why I really haven't had a salad in 2+ years :) I'd rather order real food.
    I take that back, sometimes I'll order a shrimp/cobb salad, dressing on the side and just eawt the shrimp/olives/eggs/tomato off the top.

    I'm a vegetarian and I don't like salad dressing - so I guess it would be particularly difficult for me to have 1000 calorie salad.

    That's why when I want a salad I get a plain mixed greens with maybe plum tomatoes, and some balsamic vinegar on the side. No hidden cheese, no fried chicken, etc etc..

    This is why preplanning is so important when you're going out to eat. You can't ever assume anything is low cal just because it's a salad. And actually, I feel like any salad that also contains a protein that's around 400 calories is great! That said, whenever I go to any restaurant and I order a salad, I a) hold the cheese, b) ask for the dressing on the side, and c) never get the breading that goes with it (tortilla strips, croutons, etc) because those are generally the calorie makers. Any salads that also have a breaded protein are not a good choice.

    It's just knowing what is the best choice on the menu ahead of time. That said, I'm going out to Old Chicago with a group of friends next Friday so I will definitely NOT be having a salad! LOL!

    That whole concept inspired the book "Skinny Women Don't Eat Salads". I almost never eat a salad when I go out unless I have checked the restaurant's nutrition site first. Usually the only kind salad I end up getting is a side salad.

    There's nothing wrong with a 500 cal. salad (Wendy's). Just because a Big Mac has 500 calories doesn't mean they are created equal. In my opinion, you'd be better off eating an 800-1000 calorie salad than a 525 calorie Big Mac. More fiber, vitamins, protein, etc. and less grease, bleached nutrient-absent white bread, and fake cheese. I love a salad from Chipotle. If I exercise 400-500 calories that day (which I usually do), that still leaves 400+ calories at 2 other meals that day. Right on target.

    On rare ocassions thar I grab a salad to go... I opt for the Berry almond chicken salad with the pomegranate vinegarrete (spelling?)from Wendy's . I get the half size and have nothing else with it. LOL

    Yep, dressing and all of the cheese, and meats are what get you. Even if you like dressing opt for a low cal type, or don't use the entire packet. I never understood how anyone could use and entire packet of the dressing on their salad at fast food places. Salad isn't bad for you-thinking that you can throw a bunch of fattening food on top of lettuce and eat it out of a bowl is bad for you.

    Yeah, salads for me are a waste of space in the stomach......all that lettuce is sooooo filling, the toppings are always fatty, nevermind the premade dressings.....

    I'd rather have a steak and potatoe and broccoli, get better nutrition and far less calories.

    Salad being healthy isn't a myth at all. It's just that ALL restaurant food is ridiculously high in calories because chefs don't care about how much butter/cheese/dressing/etc. they use. They are in the business of making good tasting food that people will pay to eat. They are not in the business of catering to people's dieting or weight loss efforts.

    Making a salad at home can be low cal and extremely healthy while simultaneously being delicious and satisfying. It's all about how you make it.

    Yeah, I agree. I'm vegan. It's possible to eat a healthy salad away from home. Skip the dressing and use lemon juice or vinegar.

    I totally agree. The only "salad" you can order at most places is a side salad with no dressing. Everything else looks healthy, but its really going to totally kill your calories...you'd be better off getting a burger!

    when I'm lazy i like to buy pre made salads at Trader Joes...I supplement their (ridiculously caloric) salad dressing with my own: Paul Newmans Light balsamic vinaigrette.

    You can't expect a "salad" that is covered with meat, cheese, and creamy dressing to be low-cal. Just because the description includes the word "salad" does not make it healthy.

    "Oh man, this is a taco SALAD. Must be good for me. Never mind the ground beef, cheese, and sour cream! It's a salad!"

    Common sense: It's a good thing.
