I have really been fancying Pizza for days now not the flat bread Prezzo one (which is 475 cals) but a real Dominos one...

Well today I have been painting for 12 hours solid – Walls, ceilings and doors with less than a 30 min break so I have just eaten a Pizza and don’t feel guilty.

I have no idea how many calories I have I burned but even with having a lovely Pizza I am still under my BMR for the day and that’s without the extra energy used.

To be totally honest I think the Pizza tasted better because I earned it every bite.... But I have still logged it as that helps me keep on track....

I just wanted to share that a little of what you fancy can be good for you...

Lucy

Wonderful. " It tastes better because I earned the calories" I am going to take that to heart!! Thanks.

Well if you don't eat the whole thing :) Sometimes I space it out over days as if it makes it any better.

    just remember....

pizza is basically just calories FROM FAT/CARBS...

when working out or simply doing anything, your body burns through the "good" calories first and the calories from fat get stored. MFP assumes you consume "good" calories, not bad ones.. the bad ones are real hard to burn!

maybe rewarding your body with something a little more healthy, it would really appreciate it next time ;)

hope you keep this in mind! :)

    Hi Karinaes

What about rewarding your soul once in a while....

Having lost 60lbs through healthy diet and training the occasional indulgence is a treat for the soul

I totally agree with everything Karinaes says..........good true advice regarding bad calories and good calories. Definitely reward yourself, but not with a whole pizza. Reward with something more healthy. Or reward with a new purse or outfit, or heck, even a massage! Why does the reward have to be food related? Just sayin.......

Lucy, you keep it up. It's perfectly fine to indulge once in a while, especially if you're on track 95% of the time. I am so glad to hear you really enjoyed your pizza. Pay no mind to the negative nellie's!

    Karinaes,

If MFP assumes I only eat good calories, why am I able to log pizza?

Don't talk such rubbish; and if you must, try to sound less smug.

    Yay for pizza!

We all need a treat now and again. I'm saying this as I eat my treat, a 7-11 slurpee :)

I fi had to choose between pizza or starving myself, I'd take the pizza. However, like the OP, I aim for a crazy little something called BALANCE. It is unrealistic for most of us to strive for perfection 100% of the time. Like she said, sometimes you have to feed your soul!

Sometimes our diet gets a kickstart anyway by eating "bad" food - it makes the better choices work out even better! Sounds like you're on track.

Glad you enjoyed your pizza! You most definitely earned it. I don't eat pizza very often anymore these days, but it sure does taste good when I do splurge once in a while, and I definitely do on occasion. That's sort of what this is all about for me. My dad had diabetes, so he had to watch what he ate 24/7. He never had the luxury of splurging. That motivated me to eat better and lose the weight now so that I can hopefully avoid a diagnosis like that. I like that I can work a little extra something in here and there without it doing any harm. Your success so far clearly shows you know how to work it. Congrats!

I once had a nutritionist tell me that if you are going to treat yourself you should get the best of whatever you are craving and totally enjoy it! Chances are this will help you stay on track more so than eating some low-cal, no taste, pizza want-a-be. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
  • Oh no, OP has indulged in pizza! Don't you know the moment you create an account on this site, you give up pizza forever and ever?

Oh, wait, what's that? It's actually about learning to eat reasonably for the rest of your life, including indulging sometimes?

    Good to know.

Hope your walls look great, OP.

I agree. Every time I have a indulgence compromise (like fresh strawberries and crackers instead of strawberry shortcake) I end up under-satisfied and wanna eat the original indulgence ON TOP of what I already had

wow.. angry people on here.. i was only trying to help!
from what i've read, it doesn't seem like pizza makes anyone happy.

Lucy - I'm glad you enjoyed your pizza. I have happily lost weight eating anything and everything, including pizza occasionally, and if you have the calories available for a treat, I say go for it!!

Karina - I don't quite understand your logic. You say that pizza is calories from FAT/CARBS.... but apart from protein there aren't any other kinds of calories. Humans are omnivores, we eat all kinds of different stuff and we need to eat a mix of carbs and fats and protein to stay healthy.
Perhaps pizza isn't the healthiest choice for every day, but as an occasional treat it isn't going to hurt.

If that's how it makes you feel, I can see why you'd never eat it. But if it makes someone happy, then it makes sense for them to have it once in a while.

well the OP was clearly happy about her pizza, so how is your own sluggishness after pizza relevant...at all?

Next time you come to my parade, I'll bring an umbrella :(

I understand your point about food-based rewards. It's unhealthy to always turn to foods as a reward system, and that makes sense. HOWEVER, when you're starving after a long day of physical exertion, a food based reward makes sense. Now, I wouldnt celebrate every victory with a slice of cake, but in this context it makes sense.

ETA: I just said "makes sense" about ten times. Ugh...its still early for me, I guess...

OBVIOUSLY Karina was implying that pizza is made up of saturated fats and simple carbs (neither of which the body needs to stay healthy).

I ate pizza a couple times this week. Nibbled some Newman's of my kids (I try to avoid gluten) and some rice crust for me. Sometimes I gain from doing this, but I wonder if it's all the salt. You painted all day. That would make me pretty hungry. Pizza= bread + tomato sauce + cheese + maybe meat and/or veggies...
