Do you believe that teas for detox and/or metabolism really work? I bought box of detox tea. I'm only consuming here and there, one cup per day.

I mean, if you use the tea as a replacement for snacking, as some do, it may work for weight loss in the sense that you'd be consuming fewer calories. Does drinking the tea, in and of itself, do something magical, though? No, I don't believe so. I guess I've never really understood what exactly it is "detoxing".6

The only "detox" I know that really works is when a drunk gets thrown into jail for the night. Other OTC drinks, foods, pills, powders, etc. are UNSUPPORTED for evidence that they "detox" anything from the body.

Thanks for sharing this link to the discussion and confirming what I thought to be true even before buying the tea. But, true that I am using it to try to fill in for an after-dinner dessert. Hoping to satisfy my sweet tooth.1 -

Good reply. Thanks.

Detox teas don't "detox" or do a thing for your metabolism, and I'm never sure what people think "detoxing" is supposed to mean in this context anyway. But if it's the Yogi one, it's actually a tasty tea (has ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, and clove, among other ingredients). I'm drinking their cinnamon and cardamom tea right now (no misleading name on this one), and it's good too, and somewhat similar.5

Medicinal teas can support sleep, ease digestion, reduce inflammation, increase energy- If you stop doing things that do the opposite Detox and weight loss? Stopping the things that cause issues and drinking clean fluids like tea can help you while your LIVER IS LESS TAXED which is the organ that does the "Detoxing"1
-
unless a drug addict, you dont need to detox. That is what our kidneys and livers are for.
if you like tea, drink it. it can help with sleep or relaxation or just taste good.3 -
Joining the chorus - No they do not detox you or do anything magical for weight loss.
Obviously if you drink any sort of tea instead of having a high calorie snack or desert, that will help you acheive your calorie target - but same could be said for any low calorie item replacing a high calorie item2 -
OP if you drink a detox tea or another kind of tea the results will be the same. I love tea and just drink the flavor that I like.2

I think tea is a great way of consuming herbs and spices that help support you body that you might not be getting from any other food source. Drink up 🫖!1

No, not at all.
My default question would be what specific toxin is it claimed to remove from your body.
Of course it won't be named as it's just marketing spin. "Detox" products are just a small part of a huge diet and health industry that is busily monetising wishful thinking.9 -

I keep a box of Yogi ginger tea around for when I get sick. It has some licorice as well, which is nice for my throat. Have not been sick this season at all. Yay masks and social distancing!8 -

Their lemon ginger is one of my favorites. I'm currently also into their orange-ginger-mint, weird as that sounds.1 -

I have to say that is one nice aspect of the distancing stuff...seems like every year I had to deal with a cold or two. Not this year!2 -
I love pukka teas! Not sure if you have it in the US though. As everyone else has said they do nothing for “detoxing” but they do include different herbs and things that could have some health benefits. I like valerian tea at night and have a few other varieties for during the day, mainly ones with licorice0

I did not say they detox, I pointed out the benefits along with healthy living and that the liver - and kidneys are the body's detoxifying system.1 -
Idk who or what ppl are disagreeing about. Ireallydo not xare either. This site has no to little interest in anything but general food and calories. Thats fine. I'm just going to beme and celebrate what I find works2

Detox? Nah...I do think herbal teas are great though for getting in antioxidants and whatnot from various herbs, spices, roots, etc that we don't generally eat with frequency. I do think regular consumption of tea can have positive nutritional and health impacts in that regard...but "detox" is just a marketing gimmick. I love my evening tea and trying new flavors and I find them quite enjoyable and relaxing...I do drink quite a bit of tea, which makes me pee a lot...but that's the only "detox" going on.6 -

I just picked up a box of Pukka tea (in the US) and it says Detox on the box. And, I had been on the Republic of Tea's website and they were marketing a metabolism booster tea. This was what spurred my question. I have always believed that the liver detoxes for our bodies, but I see so many claims from dieticians and nutrition counselors, and packages, etc for detox and thought maybe I was missing something.0 -
I highly doubt qualified dieticians are making these claims.
Nutrition counsellors maybe - is that an an actual qualification or something one can just call oneself?1 -

you mean we call out woo science and marketing BS as .... BS? then yes, you are correct.
if you like tea drink it. There can be benefits from it, that others have stated. but it will not detox anything from your body. As I said, our kidneys and liver do that. Every day. 24/7.4 -

Curiously, the posts on this thread that say the teas may have ingredients with nutritional benefits (such as antioxidants), or that specific individuals have found them helpful for things such as settling a unsteady stomach . . . those are not getting disagrees, so far.
Maybe there's something else involved in the disagree reactions.
FWIW, I don't find MFP as a whole to have "little interest in anything but general food and calories". There are many, many truly geeked-out threads here about nutritional science, from various perspectives. Even in general threads, it's common to see people say "calories for weight loss, well-rounded nutrition for health" or equivalent, and offer details on the nutrition front.4
