It's a luxury to lose weight?!?

Yesterday I groaned as I stepped off the scale that told me I now weighed 1 1/2 lbs MORE than last week despite my best efforts at working out this week. Ugh! I moaned and groaned to myself as I got ready for work thinking about how stinking hard losing weight is. I thought back to all those workouts this week that seemed like they were for nothing. Then today at the gym I ran into a guy who is in the military and is home on leave. After talking with him and while running my intervals on the treadmill I started thinking about how many service men and women suffer life altering injuries that forever change their ability to use their bodies the way they use to. I thought back to a show I'd seen about Walter Reed Medical Center where 1,000s of soliders fight daily to do the things I take for granted(walking, running, yes even on a treadmill). These people would give anything to be able to workout in a gym using the full capacity of their bodies.
So here's my conclusion...Sure most of us here may need to lose what seems like a lot of weight but I'm guessing most of us are able to tackle that challenge with fairly healthy bodies that will work with us if we put the effort in. It's a luxury to be able to exercise with full use of all our limbs and capacities. It's a luxury to have a relatively healthy body that we just want to shape into being something leaner rather than having to learn to redo basic life skills because of an injury. So next time I step onto the treadmill, or swim in the pool I'm going to appreciate just what a luxury it is to be able to do so.

Livefree you ROCK! You are absolutely right, I have an aquaitance who is in the hospital just diagnosed with a brain tumor the size of a tennis ball. She is 32.....upon surgery she may have to learn to walk again......she is fairly healthy so she could pull through alright, but it too got me thinking.......I am fat and out of shape. If I had something like this happen to me, I honestly believe the state I have allowed my body to get in could potentially cause me to be unable to get back to "normal" or anywhere near normal....and I am 35!

It is great to be reminded, that our bodies are so very important RIGHT NOW.......I am going to go workout.....I don't want to take for granted 1 more day the ability to be healthy

    Thanks :flowerforyou:
