Just wanted to know if anyone knew about creaky knees? Just in the last week I have been doing more squats, lunges etc and my knees having been making all sorts of noises.. So loud others nearby can hear... Does anyone know if this is of any concern? Other than today (a double workout, my left knee hurts..) I have had no troubles and injury free... I am veryparticlar on doing routines correctly eg, knee over foot etc, so it isn't technique..(I think)
Thanks in advance for your answer... ^_^

Do you supplement with fish oils? How many times a week are you doing squats and lunges? Sounds like you are overdoing it.0

Thanks for responding... I do have lots of omega 3 .. Have salmon a far bit too... Have been running since February and decided to change it and do Nike workout which has the lunges and squats... The thing is it maybe from overdoing however it was loud the first time....?0

I also get very creaky knees, have done for years, so I'd be interested in any answers you get.0

As long as your not having pain, it may most likely be soft-tissue responding to the increase in knee use. If you start having pain, definately stop and see your MD. Some people use things like "Move Free" or Glucosamine/Chondroitin for their joints; can't hurt.0

By both of these above replies it sounds like there is nothing to worry about... I just don't want to damage them.. I'm paranoid about injury.. Lol0

If it's sore then it is best to cut back a little on the squats, perhaps one session a week or leave out the lunges since it's basically the same exercise....both quad dominant. You can also take a manganese supplement that aids in the the formation of cartilage and synovial (lubricating) fluid of the joints.
If the soreness persist, you could always do hack squats that would support your range of motion and prevent you from getting a serious injury.0 -
Thanks for the tips... Will re-evaluate0

My knees have always cracked like that. It's pretty common. If you ever took a dance class as a child, it sounds like Rice Krispies when everyone does their first few plies.0

I have this problem too and my doctor told me it's Bursitis. The bursa in the knee become inflamed and can cause pain, redness and swelling. I take some Ibuprofen for the inflamation and wrap it when I run.0

If you have any concern you should go to the doctor and get checked out to be on the safe side. Many minor things initially overlooked can get worse quickly nd you will have peace of mind it is nothing serious if it is a false alarm.
I have holes in both knee cartilage discs, which have worn worse over time causing my knees to click, grind etc.
I only reported problems after my knees started to give me a lot of pain.
I now only do exercises which strengthen my thighs and glutes to keep the knee ligaments supprted and stay away from high impact work outs. I have been officially told by the fracture clinic I cannot run either on running machines or outside, so it is not just that I run like Phoebe!
I get to the gym for Spinning, Body Combat, Body Pump, Pilates, doing classes that suit and I love to support my body, and prevent damage.
Things may be different for you, you may not have any real cause for concern, but I would not wish the pain on anyone who didn't get it checked out earlier, just in case.
Good luck, I hope your knees keep kicking *kitten* with you0 -
Thanks for the input really appreciate it ^_^0

See the doc - I've had knee problems since college (1970's). They snap and crack from time to time 'cause I have had "runners knee" caused by roughened cartilage.
After three decades of low level pain, I started taking glucosamine with chondroitin in 2005. I haven't had pain since then!
Since you're just experiencing noise but no apparent damage yes, I'd check in with the doc. A short course of physio might be able to get things squared away.
Good luck!0 -
Thank you so much ... I'm away from home for a few weeks.. When I get back I'll get them checked! They are SO noisy lol0
