How much do you lose per/month on average?

I can't seem to get beyond 2lb / month...at this rate I'll be at my goal weight in one year, which is somewhat depressing. Anyone else in the same slow boat? I wonder if its the fact that I'm fairly small-framed and don't have THAT much to lose...or if I just need to push myself harder exercise-wise? I currently do 40 min / day on the treadmill, 3.0 speed varying incline from 0-10 in a up & down hill type exercise. Whaddya think?

im losing about 3-4 pounds per month
it has slowed down the closer i get to my goal

at that rate I would never reach my goal.. I started working out a month ago and eating every healthy I am 317 pounds and I havent lost a thing not even inches.. and I have been working out every day for about two to three hours a day I do 30 min on the bike 10 min on the treadmill then I use the other machines along with laps in the pool and water arebics.. I am going to keep it up my hard work but I am determind not to take the easy way out..0

I started a month ago and so far 6lbs...hopefully it will stay the same or more every month going forward..

*shifty eyes* I don't do ANY weight training...I'm kind of at a loss of where to start. I work out at home so I'd have to come up with some at-home program with free-weights I guess?0 -
Yeah... get one of the Jillian Michaels dvd's. She incorporates weight training with getting your heart rate up. Awesome0

Yes and no... do you do any excercise other than cardio? I would start off with adding crunches and pushups to your regular daily excercise. Then if you can do it either join a gym or get some equipment to use at home. It doesn't have to be anything fancy either, just some dumbbells would do nicely. You can do so many weight lifting excercises with dumbbells. My reasoning for this is that you are probably at a point where you're finding it hard to lose fat. I found that once I added weights I began cutting fat like crazy. Cardio is essential for sure, but I also think weight training is overlooked. It can be very effective if you do a well balanced training schedule (hit each group, dont overtrain one area and make sure you rotate which muscle groups you are working out each day). I've really enjoyed the weights and they are part of my workout regimen. I started taking a protein supplement as well because I want to increase muscle mass which in turn helps cut body fat. You dont have to create more muscle mass if you dont want too, but muscle will help burn that fat... trust me.0

I don't have an average monthly weight loss yet, because it's been just one month. But my first month I lost 14 pounds, I expect that things are gonna slow down, but I joined a gym today. I hope that helps keep things monving.0

I have been on MFP since last May- but fell off the wagon so I am saying that my official start date of being serious Was the end of January around the 29th and 2 weeks from that on Feb 12th I dropped 2lbs- I started getting serious about my workouts and hitting the gym on Feb 8th and since the 12th I have dropped another 4lbs-
So from January 29th until now I am down 6lbs- Mind you I had to relose weight that I already lost- We will call them my happy pounds-
Don't get discouraged if the pounds aren't coming off like you want- Maybe you need to tweak what you are doing whether that is what your eating,how much you are eating, and how much you are working out.0 -

For the last 3 weeks I have only lost .5lbs/ week....so that will be about 2 lbs this month... but it is better than a plateau0

I started working out a month ago and eating every healthy I am 317 pounds and I havent lost a thing not even inches.. and I have been working out every day for about two to three hours a day I do 30 min on the bike 10 min on the treadmill then I use the other machines along with laps in the pool and water arebics.. I am going to keep it up my hard work but I am determind not to take the easy way out..
Just curious are you eating your exercise calories? I heard Jillian Michaels say that she has the women on the show eating 1400-1600 calories and working out 6-8 hours a day and isn't worried about starvation mode because they have more fat/fuel that they can use0 -

What about kicking up the speed? Try working yourself to a jog if you can or if you can't trying to make that your goal- instead of doing 3.0 mph go to 3.5 then to 4.0 or alternate 3.5-4.5 in increments.

I'm not really looking to bulk up, but I would like to gain more muscle mass to help with the fat loss. I do have a set of 3 lb weights (so wimpy isn't it?) that I could incorporate, as well as push-ups which are a great idea. I think I may look into that Jillian workout video as well...0 -

Never eat below 1200 that is the bare min-
She even told a lady that only had 20 pounds or so to lose that was eating bare min 1200 calories that she needed to slowly increase her calories to 1600 a day and to keep them there FOREVER and to just workout-
When I first started losing weight prior to coming to MFP I just deducted 500 from 2,000 and ate 1500 calories a day and got more active- I lost 30 lbs in a decent amount of time not too fast and not too slow JUST right (I sound like goldy locks and the 3 bears lol) then when I hit a plateau I found MFP which I ended up gaining a few pounds back (Not the sites fault) we will call them my happy pounds lol (my husband came home from Iraq and I was trying to eat like him- not to self can't eat like a man without consequenses) however I have lost those pounds and am working on finally losing the rest- But MFP has me set at 1460- I don't eat my exercise calories and I burn a min of 500 calories when i go to the gym (I will not leave the gym if I have burned less than 500 calories)- But I do zig zag my calories never being the same daily which keeps my body guessing-
I have lost a inches as well which to me is better than pounds cause inches is FAT loss.
Well keep doing what your doing who cares how long it takes you to get to your goal as long as you reach it. Keep working out and eating right. and you will make it there.0 -
Well don't give up! I just started January 12 and my first month I only lost like 12 pounds that was with just doing cardio 2 hours a day and eating healthy! My second month I lost about 21 pounds and so far this month I have already started off great due to going to the dr. and finding out a good multi vitiman to take and I invested in a resistance band from walmart and some 5 and 8 pound dumbells and this week from monday to today I have lost 7 pounds! So just stick with it and you will be to your goal faster than you think!

I don't know if this will help but on Discovery Health, I saw a show about a lady who tried everything to loose weight and went to doctor after doctor to no avail. She was considered obese. Anyway, she finally went to a brain specialist who performed a brain scan and it turned out she had an issue with her pituitary gland which she corrected with medication. She was able to lose the weight after that. Up until then, no doctor had been able to help. Also, I do remember that a common trait with people who have this health issue is that they tend to gain more around their necks. I hope this helps!:flowerforyou:0 -
Another thing to remember is you can't base your weight loss off of other peoples because- People that have more to lose will lose it faster vs someone with less to lose.
I would get discouraged seeing people drop big #'s every week but then when I saw there ticker or profile I realized why- Someone that has more to lose than me is most likely going to drop it faster until they get closer to their goal then the weight will start slowing down0 -
that make sence(last comment) i started at 270 pounds , a lot to me...i ve 20 pounds so far , 10 per month but i m sure it wont last, and i will star to lose less per month ... it is just like when u see biggest loser and they are losing 10, 20 ,30 and even 40 pounds per week, we got to understand that they r really overweight, like Daniel was 400 something.. so he loses more...
