Does anyone here sprout lentils or seeds? I am new to it and would love some advice. I have this 5 tier sprouter that I bought and really want to gain the benefits of sprouted foods. Any helpful advice would be great!

My grandmother used to do it with damp cotton balls and a glass jar. But now with all the scares of E. Coli and stuff, there is a recommended mix of water and hydrogen peroxide that should be used. Here is a link with some info

What are the benfits of sprouted foods? I am assuming here that you mean to eat the sprouts that you grow and not the mature plant.0

When lentils are sprouted, they change and become a simple carb instead of a complex carb. This means that they give your body more energy because they do not have to create the enzymes to break down a complex carb anymore. In return, they become easier to digest, more nutritional because you absorb more, and a better source of protein (most plant based proteins are complex carbs). This is the case for most sprouted foods. What are the benfits of sprouted foods? I am assuming here that you mean to eat the sprouts that you grow and not the mature plant.0 -

I love using a sprouter for seeds, but for lentils I just use a glass jar for lentils. My regular sprouter isn't dishwasher safe & the small seeds take extra care anyway, so it is a lot more work to insure that it is really clean.
I don't let the lentils sprout more than 3 days as they seem to go bad quickly. Perhaps the air is especially dry in my current apartment, but I need to rinse the lentils 3x each day. It is so easy though, that I keep it up even when I take a break from regular sprouting.
Good luck!0 -
So all you have to do is put lentils in a jar with water and rinse them 3x a day? Do you have to get specific lentils?I love using a sprouter for seeds, but for lentils I just use a glass jar for lentils. It is also said that it is better to eat a living plant. As sprouts continue to grow after harvested. We have started sprouting Broccoli. It is one of the most healthiest things to eat. Just adding it to out green smoothies daily.0
