I am just curious. Are there any people on here that have lost or in the process of losing 100 or more pounds that are NOT doing it as part of WLS or motivated by WLS? I do not have a problem with using WLS to get healthy but the PHYSICAL dynamic is different.

I have lost 75 lbs. over the last 2 years and need to lose about 50 more in the next 6 months to have hip surgery. It has been an up and down "journey" for Me, but recently I have come to believe that this is typical for every one relative to weight loss, maintenance and control.

Anyway, Could you tell your stories and how you stay motivated, how your life has changed, how you feel about yourself, how it all begun...
Thanks

I used to weigh about 475 lbs, some of my story is on my profile. It would take forever to tell the whole story now, but I will mark this thread and do so later this evening :)

Great question! I've lost 30 pounds this year and kept it off for the first time ever. Would have been more but lost the last 6 months when I broken my leg in a few places and had to have surgery. Still recovering but maintained.

I was offered WLS by my doctor and was like NO THANKS.

Would love to hear some motivating stories!

I'm at 75lbs lost so far, If I get to my ULTIMATE goal weight I will have lost 100lbs just for me, not because of surgery etc. It's taken me a year to get this far and I'm okay if it takes an entire 'nother year for more.

It's about changing my life not a diet. It's so cliche but true. I had to completely change my LIFE not just what I put in my mouth.
  • WLS wasn't for me...not judging others, it just wasn't what I wanted. I've lost my weight with sensible diet and moving every chance I get - even if it's only up and down a couple of extra grocery store isles.

I think we all have ups and downs. Days that we celebrate or dine with friends that the calorie count goes out the window. What works for me is to consider this a lifestyle - if I totally blow one day it's not a biggie...just back on track the next day.

    Good luck to you!

I have just reached the 100 lb mark recently. First off I think everyone's journey is different but for me to get the results I have had thus far the inside had to change before the outside did. For me I was usig food as an escape from every day life. When I had that "wake up" call and realized God had some amazing plans for me (that did not include eating myself away) I started to change. :)

My goal is to lose 100 pounds! I've lost 63 so far with 37 to go. It's been a slow process (19 months) but at least I know I can do it and keep it off. I'm hoping by 2012 I'll make my goal. I'm against WLS. I think that it is a quick fix and not health. My sister has had it and she gained half of her weight back. A lot of the time the people who have surgery think they can eat the same way but in smaller portions and really that isn't changing anything.

THIS IS WONDERFUL! All of You. I will KEEP this at the Top of My Topics ALWAYS! This is so LIFE AFFIRMING!
  • When I started here five months ago, I had just over 100 pounds to lose, and that was such a daunting fact to deal with. It seemed almost impossible. But, I'm happy to report that I'm almost halfway there.

There are times that I struggle, but I try and remind myself of how far I've come. Making short term goals has definitely helped keep me focused. But most of all, making some good inspirational friends on here has helped more than I can put into words. I don't think I would have made it this far without them.

Also, when I think I can't go on, when I just want to quit, I click on the Success Stories and read through some of those threads. There are some AMAZING people on here, and it's so encouraging to read how they won (or are winning) the battle with weight. It gives me hope that I can do this, too.

i'm just starting. in all honesty, even being as close to 400 as i was when i realized "wow, i'm kinda killing myself here", i never thought of surgery as the way to go. basically, for me, i've tried "quick fixes" so many times... i think that i just realized that this wasn't going to be any different than my drug and alcohol recovery - i have to want it and i have to work for it, or it's never going to work. so far applying the same thought processes is really helping. "one day at a time" is helping a lot. as is the fact that my friends and i seem to have all come to the same conclusion at the same time on our own, so i have that support too.

    14 down - 166 to go.
