    Hi, and welcome!

Have you settled on a plan or approach yet, for eating or exercise, to work toward your goal?

I'm not exactly your gal, I think. (Realistically, I'm not a very motivating MFP friend 😐, more of a Community forum gal, and I'm in the maintaining a healthy weight phase, after going from 180s to 120s back in 2015). Still, I wanted to comment on your thread to welcome you to the Community, and wish you success with MFP.

    All the best!

    Hi and welcome to MFP!

Just a caveat. Summer will be upon us in two or three months. I know it’s tempting to start off with a bang, but don’t beat yourself up expecting to lose half your goal by then.

Many new users are very enthusiastic and hurl themselves into that two pound a week loss by eating too little and exercising too much. Guilty!!! 👋🏻

What happens is your weight goes down but you’re starving, binge, it goes up, you get frustrated, cut your calories even more, and binged sooner and harder. Or, you throw yourself into exercise and burn out quickly. Muscle soreness also adds to water retention which makes it appear your plan isn’t working.

Be kind to yourself. Set yourself a reasonable calorie goal and begin exercise thoughtfully and slowly before you build up.

Losing the weight slower will make it easier to keep it off once you reach goal.

Hugs!!! And much success to you!

Hello. I think I might be the person you're looking for to help with motivation. I too am on attempt ∞ to lose weight and keep it off. We are both starting right around the same weight and we both have a goal of the same weight. I have had success in the past using this site to count calories, I lost just under 100lbs like 8-10 years ago and I maintained for years but then my mom ended up getting diagnosed with cancer and subsequently passing away in 2017 and that sent me on an out of control weight gain spiral. Then fast forward to late 2019-early 2020, I lost 50 lbs in about 5 months doing lazy keto (no counting other than net carbs I did 20 net for those 5 months) to try and slim down for my wedding but keto is hard to stick to when your net carbs are so low for a long term diet (at least or me it was hard) so I fell off the wagon completely after my wedding and gained half of what I lost last year back in the past 8 months or so. I want to stick to low carb this time because I do think I felt better on low carb but allow myself more than 20 net carbs a day because that is too strict for me to stick to. I'm hoping I'll find success in calorie counting again since it worked for me to lose all that weight years ago. I do think friends on here is a huge help to keeping you motivated and on track so I will send you a friend request. If you don't think I am the right person to help you on your journey you can just ignore my request.
