BMR

If your estimated BMR is: 1,629 calories/day*............. I wore my HRM today all day so far. I wrote down what the calories were before I exercised then reset and currently have it on. I'm tryin to find out if my BMR without the exercise is approx what MFP says. I know it isn't an absolute but I wanna see if it's close. Anyhow, if my BMR when I go to bed ends up being a good amount more than MFP approximates is it considered calories burned for the day and used towards exercise burned calories? Also, how much over the MFP approximation do u think it would have to be?
I hope that wasn't too confusing.
Thanks :-)

Your BMR is based solely on your age/sex/weight. It's how many calories your body uses simply to function. Here is a link for more info...

Well, your BMR is how many calories your body needs if you were in bed all day or in a coma. Make sure your settings (active, sedentary, etc) are correct on here and make sure you eat what mfp tells you. If your BMR is 1600+ there is a formula you can use to determine how much you need to eat, but using this sites reccomendations is easier.0

BMR is what to burn when you do -nothing- at all.
The TDEE (total daily energy expendature?) is what you are going to see on your HRM (or something close to it).
My BMR is something like 1,400. My TDEE is something like 2,800. Wearing my HRM all day (which isn't always accurate for me, I have some pulse abnormalities and that throws off the reading) shows me burning around 3,000 cals a day.0 -
Ok...maybe I misunderstood. I thought the BMR tells us how many calories our body burns in a day by doing nothing above and beyond our normal day to day stuff without exercise. Is this not correct? If it is correct then my prior question is still the same.0

To Sarah4454 : So if ur HRM says more than ur BMR shows on here if u didn't have the pulse abnomalities would u consider the 200 difference to be extra burned calories above and beyond ur exercise?0

Basically your BMR, is what your body needs to continue to function and keep you alive, if you were in a coma, or lying in bed doing nothing else all day. The minute you get up out of bed you start to burn calories. so BMR is a base reading and worked out using your Height, Weight, Age and Sex.....0

Hope I can answer the question you are asking, I'm having trouble understanding (you aren't being confusing, I'm just not getting it for some reason.)
I just tried to see what MFP would recommend as a calorie goal if I was maintaining. I am set to active. They offered 1,980 calories a day before exercise. If I were to do exercise, I would be eating around 2,100 to 2,400 a day to maintain.
According to my HRM, a day of exercise leaves me close to 2,800, which leads me to believe that even eating 2,400 a day would still have me lose weight eventually.
I think the 200 they add when you change activity level is not including any exercise for the day. I think it is simply added because perhaps having a more active lifestyle has given you a higher muscle mass, therefore burning more calories at rest than someone who has a lower muscle mass?0 -
I see what ur saying :-)
