Do you also have MS?

I just put up a post for people with similar weight goals as me, but I was also diagnosed with MS in March of this year, and would love to also have "friends" who have MS on this site. I have the relapsing and remitting kind, and it has gotten more under control in the past 2 months. Now I want to become healthy as much on my own as possible. Would love to hear other people's experiences since this is still kind of new to me. Thanks!

I don't have MS, but my wife does and she is trying to lose weight. Her MS is currently uncontrolled, but we are hoping she will be on the Meds in a few weeks. (She has been sick off and on i.e. relapsing and remitting for almost 20 years, but we just got a diagnosis last spring. We are hoping that it hasn't gone to secondary progressive). Her weight loss has been slow maybe 2 pounds a month, but her mobility and exercise is pretty limited. That said she has been losing about 2 pounds a month. BTW she is 5'10" and started at 221 and is now 209.0

Thanks for sharing! I can't believe she's had it for 20 years without a diagnosis! I was having symptoms for about three years before it got diagnosed, unfortunately it's such a hard disease to diagnose. I wish her well. I think one of the best things anyone with a chronic illness can do for themselves is just living a healthier lifestyle, so good for her for making the effort to change. Thanks again.0

I've had MS for 30 years, diagnosed for 12. Just moving in to Secondary Progressive. I have been very active always, and am now starting to have trouble moving (muscle weakness mainly). I also have been through menopause so packed on 15 lbs in about 5 minutes. My goal is to drop 15 lbs in the next year, by hook or by crook! I am partnering with my daughter who lost 30 lbs on weight watchers, she wants to lose 10 also. Here we go!! I also write a blog: http://www.erikasmsblog.com0

Thanks Erika, I added you as a friend. I like the blog
you seem to handle things really well. I blog too, http://www.getaheadwithdrg.wordpress.org but the focus is on psychiatric topics right now (I'm a psychiatrist).

I have RRMS, dx'd in '98. I stopped all meds for it back around 2000. I still have flare-ups but I have my life back (no side effects from meds). I'm just too stubborn to let it dictate to me. While others tell me to take it easy, I push through flare-ups. I wouldn't tell someone else to do it because it can be quite painful. I've actually had more flare-ups due to the stress (workouts) I put on my body. I'm just Hell bent on getting in shape and not letting the MS try to rule me. My doctors think I'm aggressive and perhaps, I am. I just refuse to let MS try to rule me. lol0

I have RRMS, diagnosed in 2004. I am on Gilenya and was a clinical trial patient for two years for it. Before that, I did a 3 year clinical trail for two approved injectible therapies. I need to lose weight and get healthy...no more excuses. I am starting at 190 pounds and want to lose about 40 pounds. I am 5'5". It can be challanging to exercise with MS, but I just do what I can do and try new things slowly! I have been relapse free on Gilenya for almost three years. For me, easing into exercise and diet isn't going to work. I had to just wake up one day and jump in! So, here I am.0
