Human intelligence based on birth order. Based on certain data, studies show that there is a correlation between birth order and intelligence. However, there is also evidence that suggests that the larger amount of offspring, the lower the average IQ of said offspring. Should we consider things such as wealth, or lack thereof, as a factor in studies attempting to show some relation of the two (IQ and birth order)?

I think it comes down to socioeconomics and the reality of how much time a parent has for each child when there are many.... and pants.0

Hm, pants, you say? Indubitably. And how would you relate pants into the study? Perhaps we may also try to consider 42 gallons of nut butter as a factor. Maybe the higher the quantity of nut butter in or around your pants has some effect on intelligence?0 -

With pineapple flavoring to increase the intelligence quotient factor.0 -
I'm the oldest and smarter than my brother. So I think this is true. Anecdotes = data, right?0

I agree that socioeconomics have an impact on education level, but perhaps less so on raw intelligence (though it's debateable that an IQ test actually measures THAT).
That being said, I would assert that studying pants and their relationship to IQ would yield the most useful data...0 -
My dad is the 7th of 9th children and is a doctor. It's all about the person, genetics, parenting and luck.0

Love that movie!!!!
Whoops. Edit to fix the quotes.0 -
Hmmm. . well I think to base ones intelligence on birth order is utter nonsense. . Not one in this world can be ruled out as having intelligence. . no matter what the birth order was. . geesh.0

Actually, cross-sectional data has shown that a higher birth order generally means a lower IQ. :flowerforyou:0 -

Actually part of that was serious. There is quite a bit of cross-sectional data that shows a relation between the two (the higher the birth order, the lower the IQ) but when looking at longitudinal data you have to actually consider external factors such as income, employment, etc.
This was mostly meant to be taken in jest, but I actually have done research :huh:0 -
Agree about IQ tests being a very limited means of measuring intelligence.
My son tests as below average, but what he is good at (and at that he is really really good), is not tested in an IQ test. He's just about to finish his university degree.

It's certainly common knowledge that pants and nut butter are intergral factors in determining the IQ of children. However, I do not think pineapple flavoring is an appropriate solution for increasing the intelligence quotient factor. Unless, of course, the pineapple flavoring is part of an overall plan for the child to eat his/her exercise calories. In that case, it would be sensible, considering the preeminent role that exercise calories play in both the intellectual and physical development of children.
What really concerns me is this. Are we aware of any scientifically valid studies that have been conducted examining the *style* of pants used and how such stylistic choices may affect the child's gender development? I think you'll agree that the implications could be quite enormous.0 -

By God, you've got it! I must report this new information to my partners! Genius, sheer genius!0 -

Well, that data is clearly flawed, then! :laugh:0 -

The best gauge of intelligence is how fast a person can fill their pants WITH nut butter.0

Guys, there are some foods that are used to be thinly veiled innuendos, they are not to be discussed as they are not appropriate. :indifferent:0 -
Nope... you best not mention any of those foods... you know what they are... some are even pretty tasty (yes... for real!)... and you can find them on real restaurant menus!!!!0

I grew up an only child until I was 9, when my younger brother was born. However, when I was 18, I met my older brother who had been given up for adoption before I was born. He's a full brother (long story). But HE was adopted into a family as the youngest, so he was raised the baby.
So I'm all three...only child, oldest, and now middle. No wonder I'm so f*cked up.0 -

So lets see what status does that give you.....You could either be considered to have the lowest IQ out of them all of the highest because you hold all three0 -
Umm....I wants to get edumacated, but I aint gots no smarts.
Mmmmmmm nutbutter.0
