Different brands, different sizes

How come the same "small" or "4" are SO different depending on the brand? Brand A's medium shirt is MUCH smaller than Brand B's small shirt. I know some cloths are supposed to be billowy and loose, while others are meant to be fitted, but that doesn't account for two shirts that are obviously both meant to be semi-fitted.
My suspicion is that I'm failing to differentiate Women's brands from Misses brands...??

I hardly ever have problems with shirt sizes. I have the issues with pants. Why cant they just make our pants like mens? 33 24 lol0

This is why I find a brand that fits well (especially jeans) and I only buy from them, because I know my size and I know it'll fit me.0

Vanity sizes ... women's nightmare.
For me Hollister/A&F shirts run small compared to AE. Even Aero is getting a lil small. Also depends on long sleeve and short sleeve.
I have the same issues with jeans. I've come to point where I just buy the same brand/style in all the different washes x2.0
