Hello - this is me

5sizsvuj9an3.jpeg

So my story is long and I won’t post it all here. My name is Sarah and I’m 44. Here is a picture of me last weekend celebrating my sons Eagle Scout achievement. I didn’t post this pic anywhere bc I’m embarrassed.

I was a weight watcher for nearly half my life. Was a leader for 8 years! Loved it! Loved the ppl! 2019.... Something snapped and I was just DONE with diet culture. Have been “intuitive eating” for a few years now - but have found myself not happy with where I am at.

I know I won’t ever be the smallest version of myself. I don’t really want that. I just need to feel good about myself again.

Today is day one of no added sugar. I’ve done it before and I can do it again! Go me 💗 (who is with me?!?!)

People tend to be too hard on themselves. I see no reason to be embarrassed by the photo. I am not saying you don't have weight to lose but it is not like you have let yourself go in some radical way.

I encourage you to be kind and forgiving to yourself. If you were sick of the diet culture before it can happen again. Try to avoid anything extreme in change. You only need a calorie deficit to lose weight and more importantly you need to create that deficit in a sustainable way. Tiny changes over time is usually sound advice.

The other thing is to give yourself permission to be a work in progress. Keep in mind that even people that successfully maintain their weight are also a work in progress in other areas of their life. There is a mother out there looking at your story and the only thing they are thinking is that they wish they had a son who just became an Eagle. If you look at two snapshots of my life you might find yourself envying me in one and pitying me in the other.

Agree with NovusDies--You look pretty in that photo and shouldn't feel ashamed of sharing it. I like your idea of eating *healthier* rather than *dieting*. I've cut out added sugars and still sometimes struggle not to overeat even the healthy stuff, though, so I'd say part of eating healthier can be knowing when enough is enough with calories, but it isn't the whole picture. You might choose a very relaxed calorie goal here, one that doesn't feel like a struggle to hit. If you're consistent, it will still result in weight loss.

(I just went through my clothes today and realize I can save some money and fit into my clothes again if I lose a little weight)
    Nothing like some motivation!

Good luck to you on your fitness journey!

Oh and I did great of one day of no sugar. Then yesterday all I heard in the Eve it was two letters - DQ - and there’s another day with no weight loss 😯

Click on the poster's picture, you will get a pop-up, click on the pop-up and you will be taken to a page with a button labeled with 'Add Friend'. Click on the button to add that person as a friend.

Tbh when I looked at the picture, all I saw was obvious Eagle Scout and proud mom before I even read!

Too many of us here have been bigger and more desperate than to wag fingers at you. You’re amongst friends.

Have you read up on calorie counting yet, set your goals, etc?

I can fit a DQ treat in once in a while if I want to, and still stay within my calorie goal. Although, I often find myself mentally weighing a single small DQ or CookOut treat versus the three more filling and equally tasty (nowadays) ones I could eke out on the same calories. Sometimes the one wins, but after while, usually quantity wins.

Thank you soooo much. I’m so proud of my kids. I have my first HS graduate in a few weeks too... 😢 Oh and honey I know all about calorie counting. I counted points for over 8 years. I’ve been bigger and I’ve been smaller.... and I’m just at that point where I need to feel good about myself again 💗
