Hubby .....if for some reason you feel the need for the first time to read on the boards please close and pick another day to do this! ;)

My hubby is going to celebrate 11 years as a cancer survivor in October. It's made us who we are and I'm super proud of him for everything he's done and become. I want to do something special to support and motivate him while we're on vacation. We're going to Walt Disney World Sept 23rd to Oct 4th. We're also running the 5K and half at the Wine & Dine. What can I do to surprise him and how? I don't want to celebrate with food I want it to be a healthy way to celebrate. Any ideas? In the past we're so scared and nervous waiting for test results to verify he's still cancer free we don't do anything to actually celebrate it. (Other than I send him flowers or a plant to work) I want to do something special so he knows just how grateful I am for him!

First of all, Congratulations to your hubby and you on reaching that milestone!!!!!!

If you want to do something while at WDW you can do an in-type thing from http://www.disneyflorist.com/

Or if he enjoys doing any of the other activities they have at the resorts, you could book that for him in advance and surprise him. Also there is the hot air balloon ride in Downtown Disney and you could maybe schedule that at night during the fireworks. Just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

Hmmm! I am sure he probably knows how you feel. But, it is kinda hard to help you come up with some things he would like, I don't know his interest or anything. First thing I thought about was or is not PG, so I won't go there. If I think of anything I will PM you.

First of all congratulations on the cancer free!! That is great news!!

As for the surprise.. is there anything your husband has expressed an interest in doing but hasn't had the time etc? Anything adventure related like.. say... bungee jumping, parasailing, going on a hot air balloon? I would suggest picking something out of the ordinary because you are celebrating life!!!

Your husband faced cancer and BEAT IT so why not do something bold and celebrate the fact that cancer has LOST and life has WON!!

whatever you do it will be amazing because you are celebrating a terrific milestone!
  • first off congratulations as that is awesome and i am so happy for you. I would also suggest that you maybe get in touch with where you are staying if you are staying in disney and let them know what you want to do. I bet t hey could come up with some awesome ideas that we dont even know of. If you are not staying there i would still contact them and ask for suggestions. I think the hot air balloon ride or what if they could get you on stage when they do the show in front of cinderella's castle and you could just tell him how much you love him, etc. and how grateful you are.

I am sure that between Disney and your friends here and at home we can come up with something.

He's a HUGE sports fan. He loves WDW. Actually has some tattoos b/c he loves Mickey. I'm freaked out by heights but he's always wanted to do the balloon thing at downtown disney. Maybe I can look at the plans and have it set to do that while we're at downtown disney but keep it a secret. I've made it clear NO WAY would I get in that thing. I'm sure that would be a shock. I wanted to parasail but weight limits. Plus OMG me on that I'd probably pass out!

Another idea popped into my head, either massages at the resort spa or in-room. Since you are doing the races maybe you both could have a little spa time Sunday. Where you already planning to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party? If not, that's another idea.

I could do this all day....I love Disney! What ever you chose, I'm sure it will be amazing! Good luck!

Actually set the travel dates around the MNSSHP! We're there on Tues Sept 27th. We're not dressing up but the kids are going as pirates. It's the first time we'll get to experience MNSSHP! Any tips?

He's done Richard Petty's Driving Experience but it's been years. I wonder if that would be a fun surprise.

I'd love to have something he can keep with him like a ring however due to his job he can't wear them. We actually got tattoos on our finger to replace the rings b/c he can't wear them. Still tossing the idea around for something he can wear outside of work. He got a new job/position at work. Now he's not in the field as often I wonder if he's allowed to wear rings in the office. Maybe he'd just have to take it off when he goes in the field/travels. Sets up and repairs rock crushing equipement so they consider rings a safety issue incase the ring gets caught on equipment.

I love to do things for people as little or as big as they are but mean something special. So it doesn't have to cost much.

Another thought....we're going to the beach for the first time with the kids while we're there. Maybe a picnic and some cards the kids made for him would be a nice surprise. Something home made that we can pack without him seeing it. Maybe a little (cuz I have limited time) memory book touching on the "big/important" moments in our life. Just not sure if I can put it together quick enough. Just trying to get the wheels turning to come up with something "special".

If you want a picture with the Seven Dwarfs, line up early. Before the start of the party if you plan on getting there early. If you are staying late, try to catch the 2nd parade. It will be less crowded. Have fun! I'm going to the one on the 30th, can't wait.

I really like your beach idea. It's simple and very sweet. Something homemade and also from the kids. That sounds like a real winner to me!

Plan on going early. Hoping to get lots of pics with characters we don't normally see.

When my daughter (11) gets home today from cross country I'll have to see what she can come up with. She loves crafts and right now my hubby is on a work trip so it would be easy to work on this week. Might have to google to see what I can come up with.
