Audio book suggestions?

Any suggestions for audio books to listen too? My family is going through the Harry Potter ones right now, and those have been good. (but I'm only allowed to listen to it when my husband and daughter can too...so in the mean time I need my own. lol).

I just have one problem...I'm too picky! I got some Stephen King and Anne Rice audio books (all books I have read and liked)...but the person reading made them sound sooo boring. I couldn't sit through more than 30 minutes.... :frown: Maybe they are just the wrong kind of book for audio? I dunno.

But I'm all ears for something to try! Thanks!

A must read series for audio books is harry potter. The reader is awesome. He is actually in the record books for most voices done for the series.

Ditto on The Help - I listened to it a couple years ago and it's one of the best I have listened to while working out.

Some of my favorites too! Also, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese is great and Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield, David Sedaris too

I think that's why it was easy to get into them. He does a really good job, without being reminded you can tell just by the voices who the characters are.

I don't usually read fantasy, but recently enjoyed The Amulet of Samarkand - Jonathan Stroud. It was a bit snarky and fun. :)

    A few others:
    Story of Beautiful Girl
Any of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich (funny as all get-out!)
The Art of Racing in the Rain (the story of a semi-pro race car driver as told from the viewpoint of his dog)
The School of Essential Ingredients (a feel good read - will probably make you hungry... :) )

I haven't read them myself yet, but was Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series was recommended and I got the first few from Audible. I'm told it's a cross between a detective novel and Harry Potter - the detective is a wizard.

NPR's got book lists here too:

    Enjoy! :)
