MCT Oil uses?

Hi,

I have a metabolic disorder that my doctors recommend I use MCT oil. I don't remember exactly what they said--whether to use it before/during/after exercise.

Do any of you use it? How much and when do you use it?

PS My metabolic disorder is called CPT2. I'm missing the enzyme that breaks long-chain fatty acids into usable energy. I can break down medium-chain fats, which is why MCT was suggested.

Thanks,
Brittany

You need MCT? I would recommend virgin coconut oil. It has done wonders for me.
Trying to consume more of it.
  • I would call your doctor back to clarify not ask a lot of random people on the web, not trying to be rude just dont know how else to say it. Also has your Dr referred you to an actual dietitian yet? Normal family practice drs get 1-2 classes on general nutrition during med school. Now if you're seeing a gastrointestinal specialist thats a little different but it may not hurt to see if your insurance would cover a few visits to an RD to help you build a diet that naturally includes medium chain fatty acids, as well as help educate you about supplements and answer your questions, hope that helps! And good luck! :flowerforyou:
  • actually, the doctor i was referring to was a nutritionist (along with my metabolicist from Duke). i assumed they knew what they were talking about, i just misplaced the sheet that said how much to use per pound of body weight. i was also just curious if anyone else has used it themselves and if they had seen any benefit.
